Overview

The City of Clemson is hiring an Athletic Programs Coordinator to support the Athletic Programs Manager in planning and delivering a varied range of athletic programs and tournaments for residents and visitors. This is a supervised role with responsibility for helping shape work methods and sequences within a general framework. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, or until evening programs conclude, with Saturday and Sunday work required as needed.

Key Duties

  • Support the oversight and day-to-day administration of athletic programs and tournaments across parks and recreation facilities.
  • Assist in planning and running sports programs and tournaments that suit the needs, interests, and abilities of the community.
  • Help recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and retain seasonal staff, officials, instructors, volunteers, and interns.
  • Contribute to outreach efforts such as marketing, advertising, and promotion through media, web content, and social platforms.
  • Coordinate timelines and communicate schedules to staff, participants, and other departments, including flyers, practices, games, photos, and tournament schedules.
  • Manage participant registration and field rentals in person and online, and may process receipts and fee-related reports.
  • Attend athletic events to monitor operations, evaluate program quality, and promote fair play, safe equipment use, and proper facility use.
  • Address questions, concerns, complaints, injury reports, and service requests from the public and participants.
  • Review and resolve issues such as protests, rainouts, suspensions, agreement terminations, and other operational concerns.
  • Take steps to protect the safety of all users of athletic facilities and program participants.
  • Maintain stock levels for uniforms, equipment, supplies, and related materials.
  • Participate in meetings, community events, trainings, conferences, and workshops as needed.
  • Help prepare the athletic division budget and forecast expenses.
  • Carry out routine administrative work such as reporting, correspondence, data entry, copying, filing, and phone support.
  • Serve on City and community committees when assigned, maintain contact with relevant organizations, and step into other departmental roles as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • An associate degree in Parks, Recreation, Tourism, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required.
  • At least 2 years of full-time experience in recreation and/or sports program administration is required.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that provide the needed knowledge and abilities may also be considered.
  • A valid South Carolina driver’s license is mandatory.
  • First Aid and CPR certification must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment.
