Role Purpose

This position is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of plant systems, including the boiler, turbine, generator, balance of plant, switchyard, and transformer areas. The role also involves managing start-up and shut-down activities, monitoring the flue gas desulfurization system, supporting energy-saving measures, and ensuring environmental compliance.

Core Responsibilities

  • Track the performance of boiler, turbine, generator, balance of plant, and electrical systems to keep them operating at the desired level.
  • Carry out plant start-up and shut-down sequences whenever required.
  • Continuously watch operating parameters and act quickly when any variation is observed.
  • Perform regular equipment changeovers and test emergency drives when needed.
  • Respond to emergencies involving the boiler-turbine-generator system and coordinate the required actions.
  • Handle switchyard and grid-related emergencies so that plant disruption is kept to a minimum.
  • Ensure equipment is isolated and restored safely in line with operational or emergency requirements.
  • Operate and monitor the FGD system, including its key parameters.
  • Keep all shift logbooks and operating records complete and current.
  • Support energy conservation efforts by focusing on specific oil consumption, auxiliary power consumption, demineralized water usage, and heat rate.
  • Watch important chemistry values to maintain compliance and efficient operations.
  • Oversee FGD practices to help lower emissions and meet environmental rules.
  • Follow IMS, AWMS, DISHA, and CHETNA requirements within the department.
  • Protect the safety of people and equipment through training and strict observance of safety procedures.
  • Work in line with the Permit to Work system and standard operating procedures.
  • Report defects and operational issues to the shift in charge without delay.
  • Support digitization efforts that improve efficiency and operational control.
  • Adopt automation initiatives that contribute to business goals.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements, newer technologies, and practical innovations.
