Role overview
Goldman Sachs is looking for an Applied AI Researcher to join its Applied Artificial Intelligence research group in London. The role sits within the engineering function and focuses on advancing the use of modern AI and machine learning methods across the firm. You will work on practical solutions that support production systems and help solve complex problems in a financial environment.
The position offers the chance to contribute across several AI and ML areas, including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, information retrieval, time series analysis, and recommender systems. The work blends quantitative research with applied engineering to build systems that are reliable, scalable, and useful in real-world trading and investment workflows.
What you will do
- Work closely with teammates to improve machine learning systems and production applications.
- Design, test, and evaluate AI and ML software solutions.
- Write, maintain, and improve high-quality code that is ready for production use.
- Take ownership of cross-functional initiatives and provide technical direction when needed.
- Develop reusable libraries and frameworks that support dependable and testable systems.
- Represent Goldman Sachs at conferences and in open-source communities.
Required background
- Strong practical experience building and maintaining large-scale Python applications.
- A Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Quantitative Finance, or a closely related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- At least 1 to 3 years of industry experience in AI/ML.
- Solid experience working on software for quantitative investment workflows across equities, fixed income, or multi-asset strategies.
