Role Overview

H2O.ai is hiring an AI Engineer in Melbourne, Australia. This is a practical, delivery-focused engineering role where you will create end-to-end AI solutions for complex enterprise challenges across APAC. The work includes agentic AI systems, LLM-based applications, and production machine learning pipelines, with direct exposure to real customer environments from the start.

You will collaborate with Kaggle Grandmasters, ML engineers, and subject-matter experts to move solutions beyond prototypes and into operational use, where they can be adopted by business teams and measured by business impact.

What You Will Do

  • Design, develop, and deploy AI applications, machine learning models, and agent-based systems on the H2O AI platform.
  • Support the full ML lifecycle, including data preparation, feature creation, model training, assessment, deployment, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Create production-grade AI capabilities that combine predictive ML, GenAI, retrieval-augmented generation, and LLM components.
  • Build backend services and APIs that connect AI models with data sources and user applications.
  • Help implement AI solutions in client environments for both predictive and generative AI scenarios.
  • Contribute to technical workshops, demonstrations, and enablement activities.
  • Work with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to create reusable components and reference architectures.
  • Explain technical work clearly to both technical audiences and business stakeholders.

What We Are Looking For

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in AI, machine learning, data science, or software engineering.
  • Strong grasp of predictive machine learning, including feature engineering, training, evaluation, and model interpretation.
  • Experience delivering ML or AI solutions in production or production-like settings.
  • Working exposure to GenAI concepts such as LLMs, SLMs, RAG, prompt engineering, or agentic systems.
  • Solid Python development skills and software engineering practices such as testing, debugging, version control, and CI/CD.
  • Experience creating APIs or backend services.
  • Basic familiarity with cloud platforms and MLOps/LLMOps concepts.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on familiarity with H2O products.
  • Exposure to full-stack or application development.
  • Background from hackathons, internships, or open-source projects.
  • Understanding of model governance or enterprise AI workflows.
  • Experience working with enterprise or regulated data.

Why Join H2O.ai

  • Competitive total rewards positioning.
  • Remote-friendly work culture.
  • Flexible working environment.
  • Opportunity to work with a highly skilled global team.
  • Strong potential for career growth.
