Role overview

USIC is hiring a Utility Locator in Aiken, SC for a hands-on, field-based role focused on protecting underground infrastructure and supporting public safety. This is a long-term career opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently outdoors, values quality and safety, and likes solving problems in a fast-moving environment.

No prior locating background is required, although applicants with experience are welcome. Training is provided, and there are opportunities for advancement. Technicians work in the field using a company vehicle and ticket/claims management systems to deliver clear, complete mark-out services.

Compensation

Pay is $18.00 per hour.

What you'll do

• Accurately identify and mark underground utilities such as telecom, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer lines.
• Search designated areas thoroughly, document each locate properly, and take photos as required.
• Use company-issued tools, vehicle, and technology while working independently in the field.
• Meet turnaround expectations for locate requests and help ensure safe excavation activity.

Work schedule

This is a daytime, full-time position. Because many locates require a 48-hour turnaround, work may include the day after holidays and some weekends. The role also requires overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call coverage, including nights and weekends, depending on business needs.

Requirements

• Comfort working outdoors in changing weather conditions.
• Technology skills and comfort using digital tools.
• Availability for overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
• Ability to pass a drug screen for this safety-sensitive role.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to distinguish colors used for wire identification and utility marking.
• Ability to read and use locate tickets, maps, and prints.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with coworkers, customers, contractors, and homeowners.
