Your Role

As a Software Engineer Intern, you will learn how Zip’s core products and technical architecture are built. You will contribute features that go live for real users and work closely with a small, collaborative team that values open communication and cross-functional partnership. The team works quickly on a broad mix of technical and product problems, and while mentorship is available, the role also calls for someone who can break down and solve challenging engineering tasks.

Examples of Past Intern Projects

• An internal AI assistant that gathers information from sources such as Google Docs, Notion, Slack, and Zip’s help site to answer questions; this tool is now used by both engineering and customer teams.
• A Devbox prototype that sets up a development environment in AWS for Zip engineers; it is now used by more than 80 engineers.
• A virtual card auto-lock feature that can lock cards based on policies such as expiry, loss reports, or overdrafts, along with a self-service onboarding tool now live in the virtual card product.

What You Will Do

• Develop dependable products and features that perform well under real-world conditions.
• Partner with product and customer-facing teams to understand needs and deliver practical solutions.
• Produce clean, extensible, and maintainable code.
• Build scalable frontend applications and reusable UI components.
• Create and extend APIs that support both existing functionality and new web application features.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, or another technical field that involves coding such as physics or math, with an expected graduation date between April 2027 and October 2027.
• Hands-on exposure to web applications and API development; the company’s stack includes Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and GraphQL.
• Ability and enthusiasm to pick up new frameworks, architecture approaches, and programming languages quickly.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills.
• Previous internship experience in a fast-growing startup environment.

Compensation

The estimated hourly pay for this role is CA$50 to CA$52.
