Science Community Lead

Role overview

This opportunity is for a Science Community Lead in Ireland, working remotely for a partner organization. The role centers on growing a worldwide network of scientists, researchers, and biotech enthusiasts within a decentralized science environment. It combines community strategy, scientific communication, and online event facilitation to create spaces where collaboration and discovery can flourish.

You will shape community experiences across Discord and other digital channels, helping researchers and emerging biotech voices connect, exchange ideas, and take part in meaningful programming. The position is well suited to someone who is energized by life sciences, enjoys building communities, and wants to contribute to an ecosystem at the crossroads of science, technology, and engagement.

What you will do

• Set up, run, and expand science-focused online communities, with Discord as the primary platform, including channel organization, onboarding journeys, bot setup, and engagement mechanisms.
• Plan and lead community sessions such as AMAs, journal clubs, live voice conversations, and other online events.
• Create and deliver programming that drives participation, showcases member work, and supports collaboration.
• Find and connect researchers, scientists, and promising new voices to encourage knowledge sharing and joint work.
• Moderate conversations so the community remains supportive, inclusive, and high quality.
• Monitor engagement performance and test new ideas to strengthen participation and overall community health.

What you need

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or another related scientific discipline.
• Comfort and familiarity with online communities, especially Discord, Reddit, and/or X, with moderation experience seen as an advantage.
• Strong writing and communication ability, paired with a friendly, approachable, and engaging style.
• Confidence leading live events, voice discussions, and interactive online sessions.
• Good organizational ability and the capacity to manage several priorities at once.
• A proactive, experimental mindset with a willingness to iterate and improve engagement approaches.
• Real interest in biotechnology, life sciences, and research communities.
