Role overview
The CT Radiographer will carry out computed tomography imaging independently or with support from senior radiography staff. The role involves producing high-quality diagnostic images, reviewing scan output, and escalating findings to the supervisor when needed.
Key responsibilities
- Keep CT consumables, materials, and equipment available in sufficient quantities for daily work.
- Flag shortages to the senior CT radiographer or supervisor as soon as possible and maintain ordering/replenishment records.
- Carry out CT imaging in line with departmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Use detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology to obtain diagnostic-quality images.
- Perform other specialised radiography procedures when required.
- Check images for quality, completeness, and suitability, advise colleagues when necessary, and forward images to the radiologist for review and reporting.
- Prepare patients and perform cannulation and IV contrast administration under the supervision of a supervisor or physician.
- Identify anatomy and pathology on cross-sectional imaging to optimise scan protocols and coordinate with radiologists for any additional imaging or tests.
- Operate radiology equipment safely and competently, including patient aids and accessories, and report faults, deterioration, or incidents promptly to senior staff.
- Use advanced imaging software and functions such as bolus tracking, image reconstruction, quantification, and dynamic imaging.
- Maintain a clean, orderly work area and ensure equipment is cleaned and restocked for future use.
- Advise medical and technical colleagues on appropriate techniques and imaging interventions.
- Handle initial queries from patients and clinical staff and route matters to the relevant clinical team when required.
- Carry out other duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Support service quality by following continuous improvement measures and conducting method evaluation or development according to policy.
- Follow all safety, quality control, environmental safety, and infection control procedures to reduce or prevent cross-infection.
- Protect patient confidentiality at all times, whether information is formally or informally recorded.
- Work strictly within approved policies and procedures.
- Ensure SOPs and quality assurance checks are maintained across all sections.
- Document all interventions in the correct format.
- Support clinical audit activities and report outcomes as agreed.
- Communicate professionally and courteously with patients, families, and other healthcare staff to gather information, explain procedures, clarify orders, and share status updates.
- Take part in department education activities for staff, doctors, and nurses, including induction, peer review, case studies, clinical presentations, and equipment handling training.
- Participate in department committees, hospital committees, and staff meetings when requested.
- Help orient and train new employees and radiography interns.
- Share information appropriately in line with governing policies and procedures.
- Keep professional knowledge current through lectures, seminars, and online learning.
- Complete all regulatory obligations, including licensure, certification, and required mandatory training within the set timelines.
Experience requirement
Candidates must have either at least 2 years of post-graduate experience with helical/spiral scanning in an acute care hospital, or at least 4 years of post-graduate experience with helical/spiral scanning in an acute care hospital.
