Role summary
This full-time Quantity Surveyor position is based in North Sydney, New South Wales, and follows a hybrid work model combining office and work-from-home arrangements.
The role centres on preparing cost plans and estimates throughout the project lifecycle, measuring quantities, producing bills of quantities, and revising budgets as design changes occur. You will also monitor project expenditure, compile cost reports, and recommend value engineering opportunities that support clients in achieving the best possible value within budget.
On a day-to-day basis, the role involves reviewing drawings and specifications, analysing tenders, assessing progress claims and variations, and contributing to contract administration. You will work closely with internal team members as well as external stakeholders such as clients, consultants, and contractors, delivering accurate, timely, and easy-to-understand cost advice.
Qualifications and experience
The ideal candidate will bring strong cost planning and cost management capability, with hands-on experience preparing estimates and budgets across different project phases. You should be confident with BOQ preparation and measurement, and able to interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents with precision.
Experience in cost control and reporting is essential, including tracking spend, forecasting final costs, and producing clear reports for clients. A tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a closely related field is required.
Competence with CostX measurement and costing software is expected, along with strong working knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office tools. The role also calls for excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, together with a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are important, as is the ability to collaborate effectively within a team and communicate professionally with clients and project partners. Membership of, or eligibility for membership with, a relevant professional body such as AIQS or an equivalent organisation is highly regarded. Experience in quantity surveying within the Australian construction industry is essential.
