Meat Cutter

Role Overview

Houchens Food Group is hiring a full-time Meat Cutter for its Albany, Georgia location. This is a non-exempt role reporting to the Meat Manager, with no travel required. The schedule is flexible, and the position has no direct reports.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will support the meat department by preparing, storing, cutting, cleaning, and serving meat products while helping keep the department organized, safe, and customer-ready.

• Follow food distribution procedures and make sure all guidelines are observed.
• Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, tools, equipment, and work areas.
• Keep coolers, cases, and displays well stocked and properly maintained.
• Work the assigned shift hours as directed by the meat manager or store manager.
• Provide customers with courteous, friendly, and timely service.
• Maintain clear communication with the Meat Manager.
• Help reduce shrink and support inventory control.
• Accurately record hours worked, review the time ticket report, and sign it.
• Monitor food preparation and service activities.
• Help track weekly and monthly meat purchases in bookkeeping records.
• Assist with inventory and ordering to keep shrink under control.
• Participate in counting all product on hand before prepaying a meat order.
• Support the Meat Manager with the four-week meat inventory process.
• Rotate product properly when receiving and stocking items.
• Check that meat coolers and cases are operating at the correct temperature.
• Follow proper safety procedures at all times.
• Clean and maintain the meat department, coolers, cases, and equipment.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Previous experience in a similar role is required.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Strong accountability, reliability, and time management.
• Ability to adapt to changing work needs.
• Comfort working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
• Good oral communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to stay organized and handle multiple tasks.

Physical Requirements

This job involves frequent standing, handling, reaching, and lifting, along with occasional walking, sitting, bending, and reaching above the shoulder. It may also require occasional pushing or pulling across a range of weights. Certain movements such as climbing, crawling, and squatting/kneeling are not applicable to this position.
