Role overview
Hodson Bay Hotel is seeking a Maintenance Operative to help keep a busy 4-star hotel running smoothly and to a high standard. The position is based at the hotel in Athlone and Bigmeadow, County Westmeath, Ireland.

Key responsibilities
- Carry out routine inspections of guest rooms to make sure all fittings and equipment are working properly and meet the property’s quality expectations, including door locks, electronic card readers, lighting, televisions, kettles, trouser presses, power points, window handles, curtains, mirrors, carpets, and hairdryers.
- Keep bathroom areas in good condition by checking lights, sockets, shower and bath valves, grout, tiling, paintwork, taps, seals, mirrors, and doors.
- Organise and prioritise the day’s maintenance tasks so hotel activity is affected as little as possible.
- Handle day-to-day repair and maintenance work across the hotel and resolve issues as they come up.
- Work with external contractors when specialist repair work is required.
- Support stock control for maintenance materials, including ordering, receiving, and storing supplies securely.
- Deliver strong guest service by upholding the hotel’s standards and communicating clearly with managers and guests.
- Follow health and safety requirements carefully to protect staff, guests, and contractors.
Candidate profile
- Able to bring 2 to 3 years of experience in a maintenance position, ideally in a hotel or a similar setting.
- Well organised, able to plan ahead, and comfortable handling several tasks at once.
- Works well as part of a team and maintains high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Has clear communication and good people skills.
- Can work independently and respond quickly to urgent maintenance needs.
