Housekeeper

Job summary

This role is for a dependable housekeeper who can maintain facilities with a strong sense of responsibility and close attention to detail. The purpose of the position is to keep guest and client spaces clean, organized, and aligned with quality care expectations, while also helping protect the organization’s reputation.

What you will do

• Carry out cleaning work in line with infection prevention and control practices, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing, vacuuming, emptying garbage, cleaning bathrooms, and performing post-discharge cleaning.
• Follow infection control and company procedures for admission rooms, discharge rooms, and isolation or outbreak-related room and unit cleaning.
• Work according to company policies and procedures at all times.
• Inspect rooms and ensure they are maintained to required standards.
• Handle cleaning equipment carefully and report any equipment issues or deficiencies.
• Inform supervisors about damage, shortages, or unusual disturbances.
• Respond to reasonable concerns or requests in a calm, patient, and professional manner.
• Monitor supply levels for consumables and replenish items when needed.
• Follow health and safety requirements strictly and remain aware of company practices.
• Take part in quality improvement activities and ongoing process enhancements under the Quality Management System.
• Support health and safety initiatives while carrying out all duties, and report any health or safety risk to the immediate supervisor.
• Complete accident reports for any direct reports who are injured on the job within 24 hours of the incident.
• Contribute actively to continuous quality improvement efforts.
• Protect client and company information and share it only with authorized Bayshore personnel.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Secondary school completion is preferred, along with Home Support Programs where applicable.
• Previous experience working as a cleaner or housekeeper.
• Comfortable working with minimal supervision while maintaining strong performance.
• Able to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
• Friendly, client-focused, and service-oriented.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage challenging situations in a consistent and objective way.
• Good ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time effectively.
• Can work efficiently without sacrificing quality.
• Physically able to stand, bend, squat, kneel, and reach as required.
• Able to lift up to 23 kilograms.
• Can communicate clearly in spoken and written English or French.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply infection prevention practices.
• At least 1 year of recent experience in a similar role, or equivalent life experience involving comparable duties.

Work environment

This position is based in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada and is on-site. It is a part-time role.

Additional information

The work requires adherence to health and safety rules, infection prevention procedures, confidentiality expectations, and quality improvement practices. Physical mobility and the ability to lift 23 kilograms are required. Communication may be in either English or French.
