About the Role

This position is with the State of Indiana at Madison State Hospital, a long-established facility serving residents of Indiana since 1910. The hospital is set in a rural location with views of the Ohio River and operates within the Indiana State Psychiatric Hospital Network. Its care model is trauma-informed and supported by a multidisciplinary team delivering treatment programs across individual therapy, medication management, family therapy, psycho-educational groups, rehabilitation services, chaplain support, co-occurring programming, and employment opportunities for patients. The campus also offers specialty groups, and the clinical and medical leadership work closely with unit teams to support modern, comprehensive care.

Role Summary

The housekeeper is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation across assigned areas and supporting the overall upkeep of the facility. This role is part of a public service organization that emphasizes competitive pay, strong benefits, and work-life balance.

Key Duties

• Clean restrooms, sinks, and mirrors.
• Sweep, mop, wax, and otherwise maintain floors.
• Dust and polish furniture and other surfaces.
• Wash windows, blinds, and walls as needed.
• Restock and distribute supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissue, cups, and cleaning products.
• Request, distribute, and store housekeeping supplies.
• Identify and report equipment or facility repair needs.
• Be present at the assigned work location during scheduled hours, as on-site attendance is an essential part of the job.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned, since duties may change based on operational needs.

Skills and Knowledge

Success in this role requires practical cleaning knowledge, the ability to use common custodial equipment, and clear communication in both spoken and written form. The position may also include helping train new staff and completing reports and order forms.

Compensation
