Role overview
An established property maintenance, refurbishment, and retrofit contractor is hiring an experienced Groundworker for a permanent 40-hour-per-week position in Cornwall. This role supports work across social housing and public sector properties, with a focus on external repairs and improvement projects that help enhance homes and communities.
The position offers a starting pay rate of £16 per hour and is suited to someone who can confidently handle varied groundwork tasks, work safely in occupied properties, and contribute to a collaborative site team.
Main duties
- Perform a broad range of groundworks on domestic and social housing properties.
- Lift out, repair, and re-lay paving, slabs, and flagstones.
- Set out and install new concrete paths, ramps, and footings.
- Dig trenches, holes, and foundations where required.
- Spot and fix defects in external groundworks.
- Use hand tools and light plant/equipment safely and effectively.
- Follow all health and safety requirements at every stage of work.
- Keep the work area tidy, secure, and well organised.
- Work closely with colleagues and other trades to complete work on schedule.
- Deliver a professional customer experience when working in occupied homes.
Candidate profile
The ideal applicant will already have groundworking experience and be comfortable working on construction sites and domestic properties. The job involves physically demanding tasks, so good practical ability and stamina are important. A solid grasp of health and safety is needed, along with IT literacy. A full UK driving licence is required.
Pay, benefits, and working pattern
This is a permanent full-time role with a 40-hour working week and an hourly rate of up to £16. Employees also receive increased pay when taking part in the on-call rota. Additional benefits include a company van and fuel card, 23 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, an annual tool allowance, a retail and lifestyle discount platform, wellbeing and counselling support, enhanced family leave policies, training and career development, and recognition and reward schemes.
Additional information
Successful candidates will need to pass background, identity, and security checks. Because of insurance requirements, a clean driving licence is preferred, or no more than 3 penalty points. The role includes participation in an on-call rota, with a higher rate applied when on call.
Inclusion statement
The hiring partner is committed to fair and inclusive recruitment. Applications are encouraged from people of all backgrounds, including those from under-represented groups. Reasonable adjustments can be provided during the hiring process for candidates who are disabled, neurodivergent, or who need support to ensure an equitable experience.
