Data Scientist

Role overview

Micron is seeking a Data Scientist to help turn complex manufacturing data into practical improvements for advanced semiconductor production. In this role, you will use mathematical, statistical, and information technology methods to discover trends, build predictive models, and create solutions that improve product yield and reduce process variation. The position works closely with Process Integration and Process Engineering teams and involves troubleshooting production issues, identifying root causes, and supporting data-driven decision-making across manufacturing operations.

What you will do

• Work with semiconductor engineering teams to study inline, parametric, and probe data, identify the main factors affecting yield, and support continuous improvement efforts.
• Pull, clean, transform, and analyze data from SQL databases, sensor systems, and fabrication tool logs to support manufacturing activities.
• Use statistical methods, data science techniques, and machine learning to investigate yield losses and contribute to defect reduction strategies.
• Support process and integration engineers in planning, executing, and reviewing Design of Experiments (DOE) to improve process capability and margin.
• Create automated dashboards and reports with tools such as Dash, Plotly, and Angular to explain technical results clearly to engineering stakeholders.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve line issues and perform root cause analysis.
• Develop software routines, algorithms, and automated workflows to combine, validate, and assess large datasets from multiple sources.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, AI, or Engineering, along with at least 2 years of hands-on experience in data science, analytics, or scripting-based work. You should be open to learning semiconductor manufacturing concepts and comfortable working closely with equipment and integration engineers to solve production challenges.

Technical skills and experience

• Strong Python programming ability and practical SQL experience for data extraction and manipulation.
• Working knowledge of statistical methods and tools such as SPC, DOE, and FDC/EDA for data-driven problem solving.
• At least 2 years of experience using visualization tools like Dash, Plotly, or Angular to present complex engineering information.

Preferred background

• Experience or internship exposure in semiconductor manufacturing, electronics manufacturing, or a related domain.
• Basic familiarity with semiconductor fabrication, equipment behavior, and device physics, including CMOS fundamentals.
• Exposure to advanced analytics or AI-based approaches for manufacturing and yield use cases.
• Understanding of memory architectures such as DRAM and NAND.

Soft skills

• Clear communication and strong collaboration skills, especially when working between data science and semiconductor engineering teams.
• Strong analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, and a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
• Ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities, and deliver reliable results in a fast-moving environment.
