Role overview
Microsoft is hiring a Data Center Technician in Doha, Qatar to help deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot hardware in a live data center environment. The role involves setting up equipment, carrying out diagnostics, replacing defective parts, and handling straightforward decommissions and refresh work while following established operating procedures.
This position supports the infrastructure behind Microsoft’s cloud services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Microsoft Azure. It also offers exposure to data center processes, security and data handling practices, mentoring opportunities, and development paths such as career rotation programs, diversity and inclusion learning, and professional certification support.
The company operates a large global infrastructure footprint spanning more than 200 data centers across 32 countries, supporting over 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in more than 90 countries. Responsibilities
- Run diagnostics and fault isolation tasks by following standard procedures, identify the source of problems, and swap out defective components with as little disruption as possible.
- Carry out post-work inspections to confirm grounding, staging, labeling, and cabling are completed correctly and meet safety rules, deployment standards, and planned Network Design Tasks.
- Remove hardware for straightforward changes and refreshes such as memory upgrades and rebuilds, using standard processes and limited supervision.
- Report, communicate, and escalate incidents to the relevant data center operations managers, technician leads, and engineering teams as required.
- Support peers and provide guidance when tasks are complex or challenging.
- Complete the training assigned to the role and workload, and learn from experienced technicians through observation and hands-on practice.
- Contribute to a collaborative team culture by sharing information, participating in team meetings, asking questions, and staying aware of others’ progress.
- Take ownership of service quality, completeness, customer experience, and the condition of the data center facilities.
- Represent Microsoft’s culture and values in daily work.
Requirements
- High school diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Basic understanding of computer hardware and components.
- Experience supporting IT equipment or similar technology.
- Ability to satisfy Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
- Willingness to complete the Microsoft Cloud background check on joining or transfer and every two years after that.
- Preferred: experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
- Preferred certifications such as CompTIA A+, Server+, Network+, or Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
