About the company
Maas Construct is a construction business within Maas Group Holdings, an Australian ASX-listed group serving the property, civil, infrastructure, and mining industries with materials, equipment, and service capabilities. Established in 2002, the group has grown to more than 2,000 employees and runs a fleet of over 550 machines, delivering building and infrastructure projects across regional Australia with support from its own materials, plant, and services functions.
Role overview
This is a fixed-term 18-month contract opportunity for a Contracts Administrator based in Launceston, Tasmania. The position focuses on the commercial and administrative management of subcontract packages on major construction projects, with direct support to the Senior Contract Administrator.
You will help drive project commercial outcomes by keeping subcontract administration accurate and up to date, handling variations and claims, and producing monthly cost reports for allocated trade packages.
Key duties
- Oversee subcontract and supply package procurement, including preparing scopes, issuing enquiries, analysing tenders, and managing awards.
- Administer subcontract agreements through the full project cycle, covering progress claims, variations, and practical completion in line with contractual obligations.
- Keep registers current for subcontract packages, purchase orders, and all contractual correspondence.
- Liaise with Project Managers and Site Managers so subcontract scope is clearly defined and properly controlled on site.
- Prepare end-of-month cost reports for assigned packages, including budget-to-cost reviews and forward financial forecasts.
- Process monthly subcontractor payment evaluations and refer any contested amounts to the Senior Contract Administrator.
- Maintain cost coding, budget uploads, and data accuracy within the project management system.
What we're looking for
The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of experience in contract administration within the building construction sector, along with a solid understanding of construction contract types and subcontract processes. A tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a similar field is required.
You should be confident using Microsoft Excel and construction management software, comfortable working on project sites when needed, and highly organised with strong attention to detail. The role also calls for someone commercially minded, able to spot issues early, escalate them appropriately, and work well with site, engineering, and commercial teams.
We are seeking a proactive and professional team player who can manage subcontractor communications, meet contractual and reporting deadlines, and contribute positively to a collaborative environment.
