Role Overview
Petron Singapore Trading Pte Ltd is looking for a Contract Analyst to manage and safeguard the contracting process for physical commodity trading. This position focuses on translating commercial agreements into clear, accurate contracts while supporting deal execution, risk control, compliance, and commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, assess, and negotiate sales, purchase, and supply agreements for physical commodity transactions.
- Confirm that all contract language matches the agreed business terms, including price, volume, delivery conditions, and Incoterms.
- Make sure contractual terms are aligned with trading plans and operational realities so deals can be executed smoothly.
- Oversee the full contract lifecycle, from deal capture through execution and final closure.
- Ensure contracts are issued, confirmed, and completed on time to keep trading activity moving.
- Spot contractual, operational, and financial exposures, then work to reduce or manage those risks.
- Check that agreements comply with company policies, regulatory expectations, and global trade practices.
- Examine clauses such as force majeure, indemnity, liability, and dispute resolution to protect the company’s position.
- Track contractual duties and ensure internal teams and counterparties meet their obligations.
- Work closely with traders to design contract structures that improve margins and limit risk.
- Explain how pricing formulas, cost elements, and contract wording may affect profit and loss.
- Assist with disputes and claims, including issues related to quantity, quality, delays, and penalties.
- Interpret contract terms correctly for settlements and invoicing.
- Help recover costs and protect revenue through disciplined contract governance.
- Coordinate with traders, operators, legal, and finance teams to resolve contract issues.
- Engage with suppliers, customers, and external counterparties to clarify and negotiate terms.
- Support supplier performance management by ensuring agreements reflect operational needs.
- Create and improve contract templates and standard clauses to increase consistency and efficiency.
- Identify workflow gaps and contribute ideas to strengthen contract management processes.
- Maintain contract records and tracking tools to monitor obligations and performance.
- Prepare reports on contract progress, risk exposure, disputes, and compliance indicators.
- Support digital and automation initiatives related to contract lifecycle management.
Qualifications & Experience
The role requires a bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline, along with 1 to 2 years of experience in commodity trading, contract management, legal work, or commercial operations. Prior exposure to oil & gas, commodities, or shipping environments is preferred. A solid grasp of international trade agreements and Incoterms is essential.
Skills & Competencies
Success in this role calls for strong drafting and contract interpretation ability, commercial and financial understanding, risk awareness, negotiation skills, and a detail-oriented approach. You should also be comfortable using Excel and contract management platforms, and be able to solve problems effectively while managing multiple stakeholders.
