Commissioning Engineer

Role Overview

This is a full-time direct-hire commissioning role based in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, with remote field work and significant travel. The compensation package is competitive and includes a bonus opportunity. Travel may account for up to 75% of the role, covering Ireland, the UK, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Finland.

Role Summary

The Commissioning Engineer will take ownership of advanced commissioning work on mission-critical projects, especially for BMS, EPMS, PLC, and SCADA systems. The position requires more than basic field verification; it involves troubleshooting system faults, adjusting and creating control logic, and supporting integration throughout commissioning and handover.

You will work alongside engineering, integration, and operations teams to make sure systems are installed correctly, fully integrated, and performing to the intended design and operational standards. This role suits a seasoned commissioning professional with strong controls knowledge who can connect design intent, software behavior, and real-world field execution in demanding high-availability environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and execute commissioning work for BMS, EPMS, PLC, and SCADA systems on mission-critical and data centre projects.
• Carry out detailed validation activities such as point-to-point verification, functional testing, and integrated systems testing.
• Investigate and resolve complex issues involving controls, networking, and field equipment.
• Update, refine, and optimize PLC logic as well as SCADA/BMS software during commissioning.
• Coordinate integration across mechanical, electrical, and control disciplines so the full system operates as a single solution.
• Test control sequences under standard conditions, fault scenarios, and redundancy/failover conditions.
• Support and lead commissioning stages from Level 3 through Level 5, including customer witnessing and final approval.
• Examine design documents, control narratives, and software to confirm they match the site implementation.
• Prepare and keep up-to-date commissioning records, test procedures, and issue trackers.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to align scope, timelines, and deliverables.
• Communicate clearly and proactively with internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners.
• Spot risks, constraints, and scope changes early and escalate them appropriately.
• Follow company policies, quality management system requirements, and site safety standards.
• Maintain high accuracy and quality in all deliverables with strong attention to detail.
• Contribute ideas for process improvement that increase efficiency and execution quality.

Requirements

• A degree or equivalent practical experience in Electrical Engineering, Controls, Automation, or a similar field.
• At least 5 years of experience in commissioning, controls engineering, or systems integration.
• Hands-on background in mission-critical or data centre environments.
• Strong working knowledge of BMS, EPMS, PLC, and SCADA platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens, Ignition, and Schneider.
• Experience writing or modifying PLC code and SCADA/BMS graphics in active project environments.
• Solid understanding of electrical systems, control architectures, and networked systems.
• Ability to read, interpret, and verify control sequences, schematics, and design documentation.
• Proven troubleshooting skills across software, hardware, and integration layers.
• Familiarity with commissioning activities including FAT, SAT, IST, and Level 1 through Level 5 processes.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
