What you will do
- Own a large portfolio of customer accounts in arrears and progress each case through to resolution.
- Use inbound and outbound calls, letters, and emails to communicate with customers carefully and accurately.
- Build ongoing relationships with customers so that breaches of agreement can be understood and addressed.
- Work out practical repayment arrangements, put them in place, and track them while balancing customer needs and company objectives.
- Partner with teams across the business to assess each account and decide the most effective recovery approach.
- Coordinate with Collections Management and the Head of Collections to improve recovery tactics.
- Work with external parties such as debt collection agencies and paralegals, including oversight and follow-up to support the best possible outcome.
- Follow relevant legislation, regulatory guidance, company policies, and internal procedures at all times.
- Protect and represent the company’s reputation in every interaction.
- Keep records and systems up to date so that all actions, observations, and results are accurately documented throughout the recovery process.
Requirements
- Comfort using AI tools in practical ways to solve problems, improve productivity, and raise work quality, with sound judgment about when they should be used and the ability to explain that reasoning.
- German language ability at C1 level, with enough confidence to speak with clients, negotiate arrangements, and handle difficult conversations.
- At least 1 year of debt recovery experience is preferred, ideally in a commercial or business setting.
- A calm, professional, and empathetic approach, with patience when dealing with sensitive situations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with accuracy and confidence.
- The ability to handle varied challenges, think quickly, and adapt your approach as needed.
- Commercial awareness and an entrepreneurial mindset, plus genuine interest in helping SMEs; experience in finance is a plus.
- A growth mindset, humility, and motivation to keep improving.
