Job summary
Barnes & Noble is looking for a Café Team Expert to help lead the café team at the West Melbourne, Florida store. This role is central to creating a welcoming café experience, building team capability, and helping the café operate profitably. The position focuses on using data to understand sales patterns, waste, inventory levels, and other key business drivers, then turning that information into practical actions. You will partner with the Store Manager to shape and adapt café plans so the team can meet performance goals.

Core duties and expectations
You will be expected to learn and demonstrate the operational standards of a Barnes & Noble barista and to coach others through those standards. The role includes hands-on café leadership, shift support, and collaboration with the wider store team.
- Prepare beverages expertly and maintain strong food and drink presentation standards, while coaching others to do the same.
- Keep counter and floor displays organized and visually appealing through effective merchandising.
- Operate the register efficiently, handle orders quickly, and guide others on service speed and order accuracy.
- Support the bookfloor team when needed by applying bookselling knowledge effectively.
- Coach the team on loss prevention, shoplifting awareness, de-escalation, and maintaining a safe and secure store.
- Handle café inventory through ordering food and beverage supplies.
- Complete monthly inventory and waste logs accurately and on time.
- Perform work that involves standing for long periods, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking.
- Be willing to support other stores in the cluster when business needs call for it.
Growth and performance focus
- Use strong product knowledge to recommend food and beverage items to customers and serve as a model for the team.
- Analyze sales, inventory, and waste information to improve sales and profitability.
- Meet regularly with the Store Manager to review café results, profitability, training needs, and improvement opportunities.
- Apply café safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures consistently and correctly.
- Follow all company policies and operating procedures.
