Role Overview
Emigrant Bank is looking for a full-time Bookkeeper based in New York, NY, to deliver bookkeeping, accounting, and administrative assistance to the Executive Vice Chairman and the Co-Chairman of the Bank Board. The position centers on keeping financial records accurate, handling transactions, supporting accounts payable, reconciling accounts, and contributing to financial reporting. In addition, the role includes selected executive and office administration tasks.
Core Duties
Bookkeeping and Accounting
- Keep the ledgers and financial records accurate for the assigned entities and accounts.
- Handle accounts payable tasks such as vendor invoices, expense reimbursements, and check requests.
- Prepare and balance bank, credit card, and investment account statements.
- Record, organize, and classify expenses with proper backup and account coding.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, along with account reconciliations.
- Maintain schedules and records used for budgeting, cash flow monitoring, and financial analysis.
- Work with outside accountants, auditors, tax specialists, and financial advisors when needed.
- Follow up on unpaid invoices, outstanding balances, and scheduled payments.
- Assist with payroll processing and keep related records updated.
- Ensure financial documentation follows established internal policies and procedures.
Administrative and Office Support
- Coordinate with senior Bank officers, outside advisors, and professional service providers.
- Help manage communication and scheduling with clients, business contacts, and nonprofit organizations.
- Support onboarding paperwork, vacation tracking, and other personnel recordkeeping.
- Draft correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, and presentation materials.
- Keep both electronic and paper filing systems organized.
- Manage incoming and outgoing mail plus related documentation.
- Arrange meetings and maintain calendar coordination.
- Book travel, prepare itineraries, and process travel expense statements.
- Update contact lists and related records.
- Take on special assignments and additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a similar field is preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or financial administration.
- Solid knowledge of accounts payable, reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and financial recordkeeping.
- Advanced Excel proficiency, including formulas, spreadsheets, and financial reporting.
- Prior exposure to accounting software and financial systems is preferred.
- High accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- Well-developed organization, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage sensitive financial and business information confidentially.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Reliable, professional, and capable of balancing multiple priorities in a busy environment.
Compensation
New York pay range: USD 60,000 to USD 90,000 per year.
