Job purpose
This role is focused on providing specialist direction and advisory support for Marafiq’s long-range planning for utility service lines. The position helps define long-term objectives, shape planning frameworks, interpret market movements and industry benchmarks, and identify growth possibilities, all while staying aligned with the company’s strategic direction and maintaining a strong competitive position.
Key responsibilities
- Translate the department’s strategy into practical operating plans, ensuring alignment across levels and consistency with other connected strategies.
- Support the creation of Marafiq’s long-term strategy and strategic roadmap by factoring in market shifts, competitor activity, and new growth avenues.
- Advise senior leadership on possible future business scenarios and help influence Marafiq’s long-range business direction.
- Perform market studies and analysis to strengthen long-term planning and keep strategies responsive to changing conditions.
- Build scenario models to assess possible effects on operations and develop mitigation approaches for associated risks.
- Prepare comprehensive analyses, forecasts, and reports, and turn findings into recommendations that support management decisions.
- Identify and assess growth opportunities inside and outside the Royal Commission areas, using Marafiq’s formal new-growth evaluation process.
- Recommend new business opportunities based on market trends, regulatory developments, technology changes, and customer requirements, while keeping supply and demand plans aligned.
- Advise on strategic options for joint ventures and connect these with Marafiq’s overall supply planning to support long-term sustainability and success.
- Work with stakeholders to build trust and shared understanding, maintain strong ethical standards, and address critical issues promptly in support of the company’s growth plans.
- Champion continuous improvement and sustainability across systems, processes, and working methods, with attention to global standards, productivity, and cost efficiency.
- Help shape and apply policies, systems, and procedures for the team so that all procedural requirements are met.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, strategic management, economics, or a closely related discipline is required.
- A master’s degree in engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
- At least 10 years of experience in utility projects, strategic planning, business development, or a similar area.
- Background in utilities or energy-sector planning, especially with water, power, and wastewater projects, and a strong emphasis on sourcing and evaluating projects.
- Hands-on experience conducting detailed feasibility studies and preparing solid business cases.
- Deep understanding of the techno-commercial, financial, and operational sides of utility projects.
- Professional credentials such as Utilities Management, CEM, LEED, CEA, or PE are preferred.
