About the Role
This opportunity is with Vortex, a specialist contractor focused on CIPP (Cured-In-Place Pipe) rehabilitation. The business is growing quickly and works on trenchless solutions that help improve water, sewer, and industrial infrastructure. The role is based in a safety-led, fast-moving environment with strong support for training and professional development.
Role Overview
The Yardman will take responsibility for the smooth day-to-day running of the yard and operational facilities. This is a practical, hands-on position that keeps the yard safe, orderly, and efficient so vehicles, plant, tools, equipment, and materials are ready to support project work across the South of the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep the yard clean, well-organised, and safe to work in.
- Handle the loading and unloading of vehicles, materials, and equipment.
- Get plant, tools, and equipment ready for operational use.
- Check vehicles, equipment, and other assets for damage, faults, or defects.
- Monitor stock levels for materials, consumables, and PPE.
- Carry out everyday yard maintenance and housekeeping tasks.
- Support deliveries, collections, and other logistics activities.
- Store equipment safely and in the correct location.
- Assist with vehicle and plant inspections, servicing schedules, and related records.
- Use forklifts and yard equipment when appropriately qualified.
- Separate and dispose of waste in line with company procedures.
- Help operational teams with mobilisation and demobilisation needs.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures.
- Act professionally while representing the company at all times.
Requirements
- Some prior experience in a yard, warehouse, logistics, construction, or operational support setting.
- A solid understanding of safe working methods.
- Comfort with manual handling and physically demanding tasks.
- A dependable work ethic and positive attitude.
- The ability to work on your own as well as within a team.
- Good organisation and strong attention to detail.
- Basic communication and record-keeping ability.
- A flexible mindset to meet changing operational needs.
- Forklift licence preferred but not essential.
- Experience in construction, utilities, drainage, or infrastructure is desirable.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
