About the Role

Big Chief Hire, part of Northeast Auto Group, is seeking a dependable and hands-on Yard Hand for its Burton yard in South Australia. This is a permanent, full-time position suited to someone who takes pride in presenting equipment and vehicles neatly, keeping them clean, and ensuring they are hire-ready.

Big Chief Hire provides truck, earth-moving machinery, and plant and equipment solutions to a wide range of private and government clients. The business maintains modern equipment and supports it with regular servicing and thorough safety inspections to help ensure reliable performance and safe operation.

The role reports to the Branch Manager and includes yard duties, general housekeeping, and practical support across the workshop and fleet operations.

Key Duties

• Keep the yard tidy, organised, and safe through routine housekeeping and site upkeep.
• Wash, clean, and prepare fleet and equipment so they are ready for hire.
• Load and unload machinery and fleet vehicles while following safe handling procedures at all times.
• Check equipment when it returns and promptly report any customer-related damage to the manager so recovery action can be taken.
• Refuel assets and carry out basic maintenance tasks.
• Complete and submit all necessary paperwork accurately.
• Support mechanics in the workshop when needed.
• Assist with occasional deliveries.

About You

The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, reliable, punctual, and self-driven, with a strong willingness to work hard and contribute positively to the team. You should also bring good attention to detail, a practical approach to mechanical or maintenance work, and the ability to build respectful working relationships and provide strong customer service.
