Role overview
As a Product Design Manager, you’ll help shape the user experience of IDEXX’s veterinary software products. Working from the Auckland innovation hub, you’ll lead design work while staying hands-on, partnering with Product and Engineering to create practical, user-focused solutions with real impact.
The Veterinary Software team is developing a vertical SaaS platform for animal health, supporting veterinary practices through practice management, diagnostics, payments, client engagement, and analytics. You’ll join a fast-growing product organisation focused on building smooth, scalable experiences across the platform.
What you’ll do
- Own the design of user-centered experiences across the veterinary software suite.
- Work closely with Product Managers and Engineers to prioritise, shape, and deliver high-impact features.
- Develop thoughtful design plans and turn ideas into strong UX and UI outcomes.
- Carry out user research and use the findings to enhance the customer experience.
- Create interactive prototypes and design concepts to test and refine solutions.
- Define and document UI components and design patterns to keep experiences consistent.
- Engage with customers and internal teams to understand workflows and real user needs.
- Lead usability testing and use feedback to iterate and improve designs.
- Coach and support fellow designers through guidance, feedback, and leadership.
- Help build a strong design culture and raise the quality bar across the organisation.
- Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to align design choices with business goals and technical realities.
Why this role matters
This position is important because it helps make the software more intuitive, efficient, and valuable for veterinary professionals. By improving usability and reducing friction in day-to-day workflows, your work will help vets and their teams save time, lower stress, and ultimately deliver better animal care. Your leadership will also influence the future direction of IDEXX’s veterinary platform.
What you need to succeed
You should bring solid UX/UI experience in a product or software setting, along with a strong customer-first mindset and the ability to turn user needs into effective solutions. Experience with user research, usability testing, and prototyping is important, as is a sharp eye for detail and a passion for creating intuitive experiences. Strong communication and collaboration skills are needed to work across cross-functional teams. You should also understand software development processes and be comfortable working in Agile environments. A self-driven, curious, and proactive approach to problem solving is essential.
Nice to have
It would be helpful if you have experience guiding or mentoring other designers, have worked in SaaS or platform products, or are familiar with complex workflow-driven tools or enterprise applications.

- Coffee, fresh fruit, and Food Truck Fridays.
- A dog-friendly office environment.
- Fully subsidised Southern Cross health insurance.
- Partially subsidised parking.
- Clear career pathways and growth opportunities within a global organisation.
