Overview
We are looking for a truck driver to operate freight vehicles from our Brampton, Ontario base. The role involves regular travel, with work locations that can change depending on operational needs. This is a hands-on position suited to someone comfortable with road work, freight handling, and customer-facing duties.
Language
English is required.
Education
A secondary school graduation certificate is needed.
Experience
Prior experience is considered an asset, but it is not mandatory.
Work Setting and Travel
You will work across various locations and should expect frequent or continuous travel as part of the job. The position includes local, long-haul, and provincial/territorial driving, and cross-border travel may also be required.
Key Duties
- Estimate the cost of repairs and replacement parts when vehicle maintenance is needed.
- Use GPS, computer-based tools, and route-planning systems to adapt trips to changing road and traffic conditions and help reduce fuel use and emissions.
- Respond professionally to customer questions, issues, and complaints.
- Coordinate travel plans, itineraries, and reservations when needed.
- Drive as part of a two-driver team or in a convoy.
- Load and unload cargo safely.
- Secure any permits or documents needed for international freight movement.
- Operate straight or articulated trucks to move goods and materials.
- Check the condition of tires, lights, brakes, refrigeration units, and related equipment.
- Handle payments for goods and collect money when required.
- Carry out brake adjustments.
- Perform emergency roadside repairs.
- Complete pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections and monitor vehicle condition throughout the trip.
- Carry out preventive maintenance tasks.
- Communicate updates and information to central dispatch.
- Track cargo details, driving hours, distance covered, and fuel usage.
- Tarp cargo and ensure it remains secure and protected.
- Transport and manage dangerous goods in accordance with applicable rules.
Credentials
An AZ class licence is required.
Documentation and Systems Experience
You should be familiar with driver logbooks, inspection reports, maintenance and repair reports, and trip reports. Experience using GPS and similar navigation equipment is also needed.
Additional Information
Security and Safety
A criminal record check and a driving record abstract are required.
Travel Requirements
You must hold a valid driver's licence and be willing to travel across the border.
Working Conditions
This role requires close attention to detail, the ability to handle a heavy workload, physical stamina, and comfort with prolonged sitting.
Weight Handling
You may need to handle items weighing up to 13.5 kg (30 lbs).
