Treasury Analyst

Role overview

The Treasury Analyst will own the accurate and timely reconciliation of financial activity across key payment rails, helping protect the integrity of treasury operations and ensuring that variances are resolved quickly. This position is highly analytical and hands-on, centered on treasury operations, complex bank transaction handling, and end-to-end financial reconciliation. It is not an administrative support role; instead, it requires strong judgement, investigative thinking, active coordination with stakeholders, and a proactive mindset for handling exceptions.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out detailed reconciliations across major payment methods, including cash, cheques, cards, and bank transfers.
• Complete a broad set of reconciliation activities such as bank, ledger, account, suspense, clearing, intercompany, and exception/break reconciliations.
• Detect mismatches, investigate root causes, and resolve reconciliation breaks independently and on time.
• Maintain a strong grasp of payment instruments and full payment lifecycle flows to support accurate matching and settlement.
• Communicate reconciliation results and financial observations clearly and professionally to internal and external stakeholders.
• Work directly with banking partners to resolve settlement questions, discrepancies, and related issues.
• Partner with IT teams on system challenges, automation opportunities, and data/reporting needs to improve control and efficiency.
• Review transaction patterns to identify anomalies, recurring breaks, and process improvement opportunities.
• Contribute to stronger internal controls and more reliable treasury reporting through careful investigation and documentation.

Required skills and competencies

• Practical, hands-on experience with reconciliations involving cash, cheques, cards, and bank transfers.
• Strong knowledge of reconciliation methods and a good understanding of payment types and settlement flows.
• Excellent analytical ability, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Capability to investigate and close reconciliation differences independently.
• Professional stakeholder management and confident communication skills.
• Ability to explain financial findings clearly and accurately.
• Experience coordinating with banks and collaborating with IT teams on systems, automation, and reporting.

Qualifications and experience

A substantial background in treasury operations, complex bank transaction handling, and financial reconciliation is required. Experience gained in a banking, telecom, or large corporate treasury/finance environment is preferred. A degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is desirable.
