Job Summary

The Trade Compliance Coordinator helps ensure the timely and efficient movement of goods while maintaining full adherence to applicable laws, regulations, corporate standards, and customer requirements. The role handles import and export administration, supports customs compliance, and works closely with internal teams, external customers, freight forwarders, customs authorities, and other stakeholders to keep shipments moving smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strong customer relationships and deliver responsive service by understanding client needs and business goals.
  • Spot customer pain points, address service concerns, and contribute to better overall customer experience.
  • Oversee compliance-related ticketing queues and resolve customs compliance requests in a timely manner.
  • Maintain strict compliance with legal, regulatory, corporate, and customer-specific requirements at all times.
  • Review shipping paperwork and commercial invoices for import/export customs use, ensuring accuracy and compliance before approval; complete customs exception tasks when required.
  • Gather and assess information related to import/export restrictions, customs rules, and regulatory requirements affecting the supply chain.
  • Share regional policy and regulatory knowledge with teams to strengthen awareness and understanding.
  • Guide customers on customs matters, import/export restrictions, and related compliance issues.
  • Track daily operational performance metrics and ensure service-level targets are met.
  • Escalate issues quickly and keep management informed about work orders and other relevant items.
  • Identify process or procedure gaps and recommend improvements.
  • Stay current on regulations governing imports/exports, government agency requirements, export controls, and restricted or prohibited goods, while applying data insights, new tools, and best practices to improve work.
  • Support assigned projects, including individual ownership of tasks where needed.
  • Help implement new business initiatives and support smooth handover between compliance teams.
  • Maintain documentation, track project issues and action items, and send follow-ups to keep project work on schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in customs compliance operations or import/export operations is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of international trade rules, customs regulations, Incoterms, and supply chain impacts is preferred.
  • Understanding of air and ocean freight logistics processes.
  • Strong customer service ability, including negotiation, active listening, and clear, concise communication to drive outcomes.
  • Comfortable working in a risk-sensitive environment and recognizing issues before they escalate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal ability.
  • Self-directed, with the ability to sort, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
  • Good time management, resource management, attention to detail, and persuasion skills.
  • Willingness to complete company-required training and meet annual training expectations.

Additional Information

Employees are expected to complete 52 hours of training per year. Required training classes and mandatory training sessions must be attended when assigned.

The reporting line for this position is to the Onsite Trade Compliance Supervisor or Onsite Trade Compliance Manager.
