SEN Teaching Assistant

Overview

A specialist education setting in Penzance, Cornwall is hiring a committed and proactive Learning Mentor & SEN Support Assistant. This full-time role offers the chance to support children and young people who face barriers to learning and help them build the skills and confidence needed to progress.

The position is suited to someone who values inclusive education and enjoys working closely with pupils who need additional support for a range of special educational needs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver tailored support to pupils in classroom settings and during other school-based activities.
• Help learners grow in self-belief, independence, and emotional strength.
• Support students with Autism, ADHD, SEMH needs, and other learning differences.
• Use creative and practical methods to encourage participation in learning.
• Assist in carrying out individual support plans.
• Promote positive conduct and help students manage emotions effectively.
• Support pupils during enrichment sessions, educational outings, and community-based learning.
• Work alongside teachers, families, and outside professionals to support student progress.
• Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and student-focused learning culture.

Requirements

• Previous experience in education, care, youth work, support work, or a similar environment.
• A patient, flexible, and positive approach.
• Strong interest in supporting children and young people with additional needs.
• Ability to build respectful and professional relationships.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• A full UK driving licence and access to a personal vehicle.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
