Stellenbeschreibung

About the organisation

Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust delivers compassionate, expert care to the local community. The Trust is recognised for its strong research culture and for embedding education and training throughout the organisation. Its main site, Queen Alexandra Hospital, is one of the largest hospitals on the south coast and employs more than 8,700 staff.

The Trust values a diverse workforce and welcomes applicants from many different backgrounds. If you are driven by high standards and motivated by doing what is right for patients, colleagues and the wider community, this role may be a strong fit.

Role overview

This is a Band 5 rotational physiotherapy post with Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, working in partnership with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare (previously Solent) Foundation NHS Trust. The rotation offers an integrated acute and community pathway across multiple settings.

The salary for the post is NHS Band 5: £32,073 to £39,043 per year. The role is full time, 37.5 hours per week, and there are 5 permanent vacancies.

Rotations may include Intensive Care, Urgent Care, orthopaedics, medicine, surgery, older persons medicine, neuro services, rehabilitation, community care, rapid response, and musculoskeletal services. These placements are based across Portsmouth and Southampton, as well as the Queen Alexandra site and other HIOW settings.

This opportunity is designed for physiotherapists who want to begin or expand their career in a supportive, varied clinical environment. You will work with experienced specialist clinicians who will help build your practical skills and support your professional development.

Key duties

  • Assess and treat your own caseload while keeping accurate patient records.
  • Take part in continuing professional development and other team activities.
  • Support and supervise assistants, technicians, and students where appropriate.
  • Contribute to departmental research and audit work.
  • Take part in the AHP and Nursing Preceptorship Programme, including the research project.
  • Work across rotational bases in the Portsmouth and Solent health economy, with travel between sites required.

Training and support

The post includes a structured competency programme, clinical supervision, and CPD support. Guidance and development are provided by team leaders, senior specialist staff, and practice educators.

Qualifications and experience

You should have a BSc or MSc in Physiotherapy, completed or due to be completed within 4 months. Registration with the Health Professions Council is required, or you should be ready to apply once you qualify.

Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, or another appropriate insurance arrangement, is desirable.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate clinical placements and CPD activity, use of functional assessment and activity analysis, and experience with literature review or research. Previous clinical experience, whether from a prior post or student placements, is valued.

Skills and personal qualities

The Trust is looking for physiotherapists who bring strong communication skills, confident patient handling, good clinical reasoning, and the ability to make timely decisions while managing risk and maintaining patient flow. Clear and accurate documentation is also important.

You should be able to manage a caseload, support rehabilitation goals and discharge planning as part of a multidisciplinary team, and contribute ideas to improve services for patients and families. A willingness to learn, teach, and help develop the service is essential.

Application notes

A personal statement is required to be shortlisted for this popular rotation. Applicants should include it in the communication section of the Smart Recruiters application form.
