Overview

Join the ABC’s Kimberley news team in Broome, a vibrant and culturally diverse part of northern Western Australia. This role offers the chance to produce meaningful journalism from one of Australia’s most distinctive regions, with stories that reach local, national and cross-platform audiences.

What the role involves

As a Reporter, you will develop compelling news content for digital, radio and television. You will work closely with a motivated regional newsroom to uncover stories, strengthen community ties, and deliver journalism that reflects the many voices of the Kimberley.

  • Research, write, produce and present news for broadcast and digital outlets.
  • Identify and pursue original and exclusive stories through contacts, research and investigative work.
  • Prepare interviews, Q&As, bulletins and story packages for different platforms.
  • Develop trusted connections within the Kimberley community to source story ideas.
  • Work with colleagues across Regional WA News to exchange ideas and expertise.
  • Assist with emergency coverage and other important breaking-news requirements when needed.

Location and compensation

This position is based in Broome. The starting salary is between $84,000 and $103,000 per year, plus 15.4% ABC nominated superannuation. Employees working in isolated locations may also receive allowances above the base rate.
