Project Manager – Journals/Books

Role overview

The company is looking for an experienced Project Manager to handle journal and book publishing assignments from the initial idea stage through final handover. This role calls for someone with at least 2 years of hands-on experience in full-cycle project management, ideally within publishing.

Location

Pondicherry, Chennai, Trichy, or work from home.

What you will do

You will manage publishing projects across the complete lifecycle, ensuring smooth coordination between manuscript processing, editorial review, corrections, proof checks, issue compilation, and final delivery to client systems.

You will act as the main contact for publishers, authors, and editorial teams, keeping communication clear, resolving queries quickly, and maintaining client satisfaction.

You will plan and monitor schedules, keep track of SLAs, flag risks early, and work with internal teams to keep milestones on schedule.

You will also review quality across proofs, layouts, and metadata so the output matches both customer expectations and publishing standards.

Requirements

The ideal applicant should have a minimum of 2 years of experience in academic or STM publishing, especially in journals or books, and preferably in a project management or production function.

Experience with digital client platforms is expected.

Strong client-handling, coordination, and problem-solving abilities are important, along with the capacity to manage more than one project at a time.

Good written and spoken English communication skills are required.

Comfort with MS Word, Excel, and online workflow tools is needed.

A sound understanding of publishing workflows, ethical practices, and data handling standards will be an advantage.
