Role Overview
The Project Manager will lead civil and structural steel construction projects from start to finish, making sure work is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in line with contract obligations, quality benchmarks, and legal requirements.
Project Planning and Control
- Create and put into action project execution strategies, construction methods, and work programmes.
- Study contract papers, drawings, technical specifications, and project scope in detail.
- Set project targets, key milestones, and manpower/material requirements.
- Track progress against the approved baseline plan and any recovery schedules.
- Spot project risks early and apply suitable mitigation measures.
Site and Construction Leadership
- Oversee all site works involving civil works, structural steel, architecture, and MEP coordination.
- Arrange the sequence of activities so milestones are achieved efficiently.
- Coordinate steel fabrication, transport, erection, and linked civil activities.
- Follow up subcontractor performance and ensure adherence to project needs.
- Resolve technical and site execution issues that may affect progress.
Contract and Commercial Management
- Ensure all work remains aligned with contract obligations and project specifications.
- Handle communication with clients, consultants, authorities, and subcontractors.
- Prepare and submit claims related to changes, time extensions, disruption, and extra costs.
- Track contractual notices and keep complete project documentation.
Budget, Cost, and Payment Oversight
- Monitor project spending and overall budget performance.
- Review monthly cost statements and cash flow projections.
- Find opportunities to reduce costs without affecting safety or quality.
- Review procurement plans and material requests.
- Assess subcontractor bills and certify payments where applicable.
Programme and Progress Tracking
- Regularly revise and update the project schedule.
- Monitor productivity levels and resource usage.
- Run weekly and monthly progress meetings and reviews.
- Take corrective steps when delays occur.
- Prepare progress updates for internal management and clients.
Quality, HSE, and Compliance
- Ensure work follows approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Implement and monitor the Project Quality Plan (PQP).
- Review inspection and test plans, method statements, and material approvals.
- Close NCRs, observations, and punch list items in a timely manner.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with HSE plans and local laws.
- Carry out routine safety inspections and audits.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure structural steel erection and lifting operations are conducted safely.
Procurement, Resources, and Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Ensure resources and construction materials are available when needed.
- Track steel fabrication timelines and delivery programmes.
- Manage project manpower requirements and output.
- Act as the main contact for clients, consultants, authorities, and subcontractors.
- Attend meetings and represent the contractor professionally.
- Coordinate inspections, approvals, and permits with authorities.
- Ensure smooth communication across all stakeholders.
Team Leadership and Authority
- Lead and motivate project engineers, site engineers, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors, and support teams.
- Delegate work and monitor team performance.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide technical support.
- Encourage teamwork and professional growth.
- Allocate project resources and recommend budgets and procurement actions.
- Approve construction methods and manage subcontractors and suppliers within authority.
- Represent the company in project discussions and communications.
- Start corrective actions to keep the project on target.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering is required.
- PMP certification is preferred.
- Applicants should have 10 to 15 years of experience in civil and structural steel construction.
- Experience in industrial, commercial, warehouse, factory, or high-rise building projects is needed.
- Strong working knowledge of construction contracts, planning, and cost control is essential.
- Ability to use Primavera P6, MS Project, AutoCAD, and other construction management tools is an advantage.
