Role Overview
This position is responsible for leading the full lifecycle of a project and ensuring it is delivered on schedule, to the required quality standards, and within the targeted profitability range. The role covers planning, execution, stakeholder coordination, cost control, compliance, and final closure.
Project Initiation
- Build the project execution approach and present it to management before the kickoff meeting.
- Develop a detailed schedule with clear milestones aligned to the contract.
- Coordinate with the design team to secure drawings, review and approve them before client submission, and track revisions until final approval is received.
- Work with Finance and Management to prepare ACE and obtain approval.
- Set up the initial project team structure, identify capability needs from the contract and scope, and collaborate with HR to fill key roles quickly. Later, refine the organization structure and assemble a strong team with the right skills.
- Assess subcontractor alternatives, obtain quotations from suitable vendors, and submit recommendations to management. Take part in selection discussions with committee members to finalize the subcontractor.
- Ensure resources are mobilized at the right stages of the project.
- Confirm that soil tests and early site assessments are carried out correctly and on time.
- Keep procurement progressing as planned and provide support wherever needed.
- Review and finalize the Project Quality Manual and Health and Safety Manual.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the client, CE, management, and all internal support teams.
Project Execution and Completion
- Manage deployment and mobilization of resources according to the project strategy and requirements.
- Keep procurement and logistics moving so that the site is ready to receive materials on schedule.
- Set up efficient workflows and coordination systems across departments.
- Track site progress closely and resolve issues promptly.
- Measure performance against the schedule, quality targets, budget, contractual obligations, client expectations, and company standards. Escalate critical issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure every process follows the Project Quality Manual and Health and Safety Manual throughout the project life cycle, while monitoring NCRs and LTI performance.
- Prepare risk assessments and mitigation plans.
- Lead weekly review meetings with the project, site, and engineering teams to assess design progress, actual execution progress, and indicators such as SPI, CPI, and EVM, and to agree on action plans.
- Provide project updates to management during review meetings.
- Develop understanding of local communities and arrange social awareness programs for site teams when needed.
Team Management
- Guide and support project teams so they can meet their objectives.
- Ensure coordination and communication between all teams remains effective.
- Run weekly review meetings with the site team.
- Keep the site team and workers motivated, engaged, and supported with their basic needs.
- Make sure new employees are properly inducted and onboarded.
Client and Consultant Management
- Maintain a strong working relationship with the client and CE while protecting the company’s interests.
- Share progress reports with the client/CE according to the agreed schedule.
- Inform the client of any changes, developments, or major deviations from the contract during execution and secure approvals as needed.
- Ensure client approvals are obtained without unnecessary delay and that inspections are conducted as required by contract. Handle contract variations appropriately.
- Authorize communications sent to the client by project team members.
- Attend review meetings with the project and execution teams whenever called by the client or CE.
Sub-contractor Management
- Ensure subcontractor teams and resources are mobilized according to the project plan.
- Define and implement the subcontractor work plan along with reporting and review mechanisms.
- Track subcontractor adherence to quality and safety plans.
Reporting
- Examine periodic reports submitted by department heads and act on required follow-ups.
- Ensure regular submission of review reports covering EHS, quality, schedule, and cost to the BU Head or Head of Operations as mutually agreed.
- Ensure periodic reporting on EHS, quality, and schedule matters to the client/CE as required by contract.
Financial Management
- Prepare and regularly reassess project budgets.
- Control costs to protect project profitability.
- Ensure sales targets are met and that invoicing and collections are completed on time.
- Create and execute a claims-processing strategy in coordination with customers, suppliers, partners, insurers, and other third parties.
Statutory and Compliance
- Manage contracts effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, including the CE and client.
- Ensure the project complies with statutory obligations and all safety, environmental, and community-related policies under the contract, company policy, and applicable law.
- Act as the company’s front-end representative for bidding and coordination with local legislative and administrative authorities.
Role Requirements
The position calls for a BE in Electrical Engineering and substantial experience in electrical substation projects. The ideal candidate should have 15 to 20 years of background across electrical, civil, or mechanical aspects of substation work, with hands-on exposure to managing medium- to large-scale EPC projects.
