Role overview
The What To Expect Project is hiring a Policy Fellow to help advance its domestic and global health policy work. The organization is a nonprofit founded in 1997 that supports moms in the U.S. and around the world through education, empowerment, and evidence-based health messaging. The fellow will be based in Washington, DC and will work remotely, reporting to the Director of Policy & Strategy and other team members as needed. This is a year-long role requiring about 20 to 25 hours each week.
What you will do
- Attend congressional briefings, hearings, and related policy events, then summarize key takeaways.
- Attend meetings and events connected to domestic and global health on behalf of the organization and report back on what happened.
- Track congressional bills and federal regulations related to maternal health, both in the U.S. and internationally.
- Carry out research and analysis on U.S. and global health policy topics.
- Support the creation and rollout of maternal health initiatives.
- Draft website content and other written materials.
- Help prepare a range of written documents and communication pieces.
- Handle administrative tasks as assigned.
What the organization is looking for

The role calls for someone who is proactive, self-directed, resourceful, detail-focused, and comfortable working independently in a remote setting while maintaining high productivity and follow-through. A genuine interest in domestic and global health policy is essential, and availability for at least 20 to 25 hours per week is required. The position is designed for a candidate with a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Political Science, International Studies, Communications, or a related area; an advanced degree is preferred.
