Overview
This opportunity is with a Charlotte-based law firm that has been serving clients for over five decades across family law, elder law, and civil litigation. The firm is looking for a seasoned Paralegal to assist several attorneys, with the main emphasis on family law support. The role centers on keeping matters organized, preparing legal paperwork, coordinating with the court, staying in touch with clients, and helping cases move smoothly through every phase of litigation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare legal paperwork such as pleadings, motions, judgments, letters, and other documents tied to active matters.
- Support attorneys throughout litigation, especially on family law files.
- Organize and update case files so records remain accurate, complete, and current.
- Track court dates, filing deadlines, hearings, and other important milestones.
- Help with discovery, including collecting, reviewing, and organizing documents.
- Speak with clients about case progress, paperwork needs, scheduling, and follow-ups.
- Maintain attorney calendars and arrange meetings, hearings, court appearances, and client visits.
- Assemble exhibits, case packets, and supporting materials for hearings and court proceedings.
- Keep an eye on active matters to ensure deliverables and deadlines are completed on time.
- Handle email correspondence and ongoing communication with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and internal legal staff.
- Provide day-to-day case management and administrative assistance to multiple attorneys.
Qualifications
- At least 4 to 5+ years of paralegal experience, ideally in family law.
- Hands-on experience preparing legal documents, motions, judgments, and court submissions.
- Background managing litigation matters from intake through final resolution.
- Knowledge of discovery workflows and court processes.
- Ability to juggle several cases and competing deadlines at once.
- Well-developed organizational ability and strong attention to detail.
- Clear written and spoken communication skills.
- Experience dealing directly with clients and legal professionals.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and legal case management tools.
- Capable of working on your own while also supporting several attorneys in a team setting.
Work Environment
- Professional business office setting.
- Work is mainly onsite five days each week.
- Up to three remote workdays per month may be taken with advance approval.
- Role is based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
