Position overview
The Kitchen Steward is responsible for keeping the kitchen and nearby work areas hygienic, orderly, and compliant with the company’s cleaning routines, health requirements, and operating policies.
Key responsibilities
- Complete assigned duties in line with the cleaning schedule and supervisor instructions.
- Collect cleaning tools and supplies from the supervisor before starting work.
- Inspect equipment every day, confirm that it is working properly, and quickly report any faults or breakdowns to the supervisor or a senior team member.
- Support the setup and dismantling of service stations for special events and functions.
- Clean kitchen appliances and surfaces such as stoves, ovens, grills, and refrigerators using appropriate cleaning products and tools.
- Wash pots, pans, trays, dishes, glasses, and cutlery by hand or with machines; dry, stack, and polish items when needed.
- Move food items including meat, vegetables, fruit, and canned goods from storage or freezer areas to the kitchen using a trolley or basket, and return any excess stock afterward.
- Help with basic food preparation tasks such as blending soups and washing or peeling vegetables and shellfish.
- Maintain the required level of cleanliness and hygiene at all times according to cleaning rosters.
- Follow restaurant rules and procedures related to hygiene, safety, and fire/life safety, and ensure the same standards are followed by direct reports where applicable.
- Learn emergency exits and evacuation steps and stay prepared for emergencies.
- Adhere to the company’s code of conduct.
- Understand company values and demonstrate expected workplace behavior.
- Carry out any other tasks assigned by management to help achieve business objectives.
Health, safety, and general requirements
- Work in accordance with health and hygiene regulations and company procedures.
- Keep awareness of fire safety, emergency exits, and evacuation protocols.
- Maintain operational cleanliness standards consistently throughout the shift.
- Follow management direction and support overall business goals.
