About WealthCounsel

WealthCounsel builds software and legal tools for member attorneys, supported by educators, support teams, and a collaborative professional community. The company has also been recognized as the 2025 Best Place to Work in the Cloud, reflecting its focus on innovation and workplace quality.

The organization is expanding and is looking for a motivated Junior Product Designer to help shape thoughtful, usable experiences across its products.

Role overview

This role is an early-career position on the product design team. You will work closely with Product Managers and Engineers as part of the Discovery Trio, contributing throughout the design lifecycle — from research and problem framing to design documentation and implementation support. The role is centered on building product design judgment, understanding user needs, and making important features easy to use.

Rather than focusing mainly on polished visuals, this role emphasizes learning how to approach product problems, translate user needs into clear solutions, and support craft and usability across the product.

What you will do

  • Frame design problems with guidance by identifying the underlying issue a solution should address, not just the visible request.
  • Join discovery discussions with Product Management and Engineering to bring a user-focused viewpoint.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and documentation that help teams evaluate options and move decisions forward.
  • Build the skill of separating explicit user requests from the real needs behind them.
  • Design interaction flows, page structures, and reusable components that follow the design system.
  • Account for a complete range of product states, including success, error, empty, loading, and edge-case scenarios.
  • Create designs that work well across different screen sizes and device types.
  • Use design system patterns consistently and help improve them over time.
  • Support usability tests, interviews, and other research activities with guidance from senior designers.
  • Observe Support troubleshooting sessions and Member Success training to better understand how attorneys use the product.
  • Review support tickets and feature requests to spot recurring themes and needs.
  • Learn product workflows deeply by using the product regularly and asking questions about how features fit together.
  • Understand the work attorneys do inside your assigned product area.
  • Work with Engineering to assess feasibility and understand technical limits and opportunities.
  • Review release notes and change logs to understand product changes and the reasons behind them.
  • Participate in design reviews, sprint planning, and other cross-functional ceremonies.
  • Respond to critique constructively and iterate quickly.
  • Partner with the Senior Product Designer and Manager to improve the design system and pattern library.
  • Explain design decisions clearly to Product Managers and Engineers.

Requirements

  • 0–3 years of experience in product design, UX design, or a closely related role.
  • A portfolio that shows user-centered thinking, interaction design ability, and problem-solving across digital products.
  • Working knowledge of Figma or similar modern design and prototyping tools.
  • Exposure to UX research methods and willingness to participate in research work.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality design work.
  • Natural curiosity about products from technical, business, and user perspectives.
  • Experience in agile or scrum environments is preferred.
  • Experience with design systems and component-based workflows is preferred.
  • Awareness of accessibility best practices, including WCAG, is preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with product management teams is preferred.
  • Enough understanding of HTML and CSS to work effectively with front-end developers is preferred.

Work environment

This is a virtual, full-time role. You will work from a home office, and occasional travel may be needed for meetings, trade shows, and training.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation with base pay and performance-based incentives.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Paid time off, holidays, two floating holidays, volunteer time, blood donor leave, short-term disability, paid parental leave, and more.
  • Matching donations for approved charitable organizations.
  • Reimbursement for home internet and gym membership.
  • Opportunities to stay connected and engaged while working remotely.
