About the opportunity
This position is a strong fit for someone at the beginning of an HR career who wants practical exposure, new responsibilities, and the chance to develop within an experienced People & Culture team. You will work closely with the VP, People & Culture and gain experience across a wide range of HR functions.
The role offers hands-on involvement in recruitment, onboarding, payroll support, employee communications, HR technology, reporting, benefits administration, and employee experience initiatives. It also comes at a time when the organization is rolling out a new HRIS, so you will help test, support, improve, and embed new systems and processes.

Key responsibilities
- Provide daily administrative support for People & Culture activities, including employee files, onboarding, offboarding, and general coordination.
- Assist with payroll processing and related administrative tasks, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Support the rollout and ongoing improvement of the HRIS through testing, troubleshooting, reporting, user assistance, and process updates.
- Coordinate recruitment steps such as job postings, resume review, interview scheduling, and candidate communication.
- Help new employees get off to a smooth start through effective onboarding support.
- Assist with benefits administration, including enrolments, updates, and disability claim paperwork.
- Create internal communications that are clear, professional, and aligned with People & Culture programs and events.
- Help organize engagement activities, learning sessions, and company events.
- Maintain HR information and prepare reports that support decision-making.
- Use technology, including AI-enabled tools, to streamline work and improve the employee experience.
- Contribute to People & Culture projects, wellness initiatives, continuous improvement work, and other team priorities.
Requirements
- 1 to 2 years of experience in Human Resources, recruitment, or a related administrative position; payroll processing experience is considered an advantage.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business, Communications, or a related discipline.
- Strong interest in developing a long-term career in Human Resources.
- Excellent organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
- Comfort with systems and technology; eagerness to learn new software, with HRIS experience seen as a plus.
- Self-starter mindset with initiative, curiosity, and a practical approach to solving problems.
- Ability to manage several priorities at once while maintaining quality and professionalism.
- Good judgment and the ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence and the ability to travel occasionally between company locations.
Compensation and benefits
- Annual base pay of CAD 45,000 to 55,000, with yearly compensation reviews tied to growth and performance.
