Role Overview
This position is with Gordon Health & Rehab in Calhoun, Georgia, within a nonprofit, mission-led care environment. The organization emphasizes team support, recognition, and dependable care for the community. The role is designed for someone who takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and respectful setting for patients, visitors, and staff.
Key Duties
- Keep hard floors clean by sweeping, damp mopping, and wet mopping; when needed, carry out spray buffing, stripping, or waxing according to center procedures and use wet-floor signage appropriately.
- Notify a supervisor about carpeted areas that need cleaning or spot treatment.
- Vacuum carpeted spaces when applicable.
- Dust and damp-clean surfaces in patient rooms, including furniture, bed frames, and windowsills, while following center procedures and safety practices.
- Remove trash from bins, clean the inside and outside of containers, and replace liners.
- Sanitize bathroom fixtures, including sinks, toilets, and related surfaces, in line with facility procedures.
- Clean reflective and glass surfaces such as mirrors, windows, and framed pictures.
- Clean areas behind and beneath furniture, and move furnishings as required by center procedure.
- Rotate mattresses after cleaning.
- Clean the dining area after breakfast and lunch by wiping tables, sweeping, mopping, and completing similar tasks.
- Replace stained privacy curtains and outside draperies as needed, including removing and rehanging them using a ladder.
- Sweep porches, walkways, and exterior areas, and pick up litter that has not been disposed of properly.
- Carry out cleaning work according to the schedule set by the supervisor.
- Work in line with infection-control requirements at all times.
- Use isolation precautions such as gowns, gloves, and special cleaning methods when required.
- Respect patient rights during room cleaning and handle patient belongings with care and dignity.
- Protect cleaning chemicals by storing them securely or keeping them under direct supervision.
- Follow all MSDS safety precautions for chemicals in use.
- Help maintain, store, and use housekeeping equipment, supplies, and storage areas correctly.
- Clean and put away equipment at the end of each shift according to procedure.
- Inspect equipment before use to help ensure safe operation.
- Report equipment repair needs to the Maintenance Department.
- Keep bathrooms stocked with essentials such as soap, lotion, paper towels, and toilet tissue.
- Reduce and remove wax or dirt buildup in corners, along baseboards, and in doorways.
- Support the organization’s image through service-minded behavior and clear, open communication.
- Contribute to committees, workgroups, project efforts, and other collaborative system activities when needed.
- Complete additional duties as required to support the success of the system.
Skills and Abilities
The ideal candidate should understand basic cleaning methods and safe chemical handling, and should communicate courteously with associates, patients, family members, and visitors. A warm, professional, and helpful demeanor is important when responding to questions or concerns.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or an equivalent credential is preferred.
Language, Math, Reasoning, and Computer Requirements
The role calls for the ability to read and understand safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance directions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; and speak effectively in front of customers or associates. Basic arithmetic skills are needed, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. The job also requires common-sense judgment to follow written, verbal, or visual instructions and handle practical problems in standardized situations. Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word is required.
Supervisory Responsibility
There are no supervisory duties attached to this position.
Physical Demands
The work involves regular sitting, talking, and hearing; frequent walking; frequent use of the hands and arms for handling or reaching; and occasional standing. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
