Role overview
Ryanair Engineering, delivered by PAM GmbH, is looking for a Heavy Maintenance Manager to join the engineering team of Europe’s largest airline group. This is an opportunity to contribute to a business targeting growth to more than 800 aircraft and 300 million guests each year within the next eight years.
The position suits an accomplished and proactive aviation engineering professional who can support the delivery of heavy/base maintenance across several MROs and base locations.
Reporting to the Head of Heavy Maintenance, this person will oversee the daily running, performance, and successful delivery of heavy maintenance checks, and will step in for the Head of Heavy Maintenance when needed. Because the teams and maintenance activities are spread across Europe and beyond, regular travel and strong remote leadership skills are important.
The role is based at the Engineering HQ in Dublin, Ireland.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and guide the heavy maintenance operations team, including deputy managers and remote technical representatives.
- Help roll out departmental strategy, goals, and performance targets.
- Own the heavy maintenance programme end to end, making sure checks are completed safely, on schedule, and in line with regulatory, company, and maintenance-plan requirements.
- Ensure contracted maintenance organisations deliver aircraft to the required airworthiness standards and contractual obligations.
- Run and coordinate daily heavy maintenance operational meetings, drive timely escalation and closure of issues, and ensure supporting teams are accountable for fleet availability and operational targets.
- Support Ryanair Group safety, compliance, and standards objectives across all heavy maintenance activity, and encourage a strong safety culture with consistent use of Ryanair Group AOC Safety & Quality procedures and the CAMEs across all MROs.
- Build productive working relationships with internal teams such as CAMO, Tech Services, Materials, and Planning, as well as external heavy maintenance providers.
- Oversee MRO contractual performance, working practices, and compliance with Ryanair technical documentation.
- Support base setup, expansion, and transition work to ensure heavy maintenance induction runs smoothly.
- Track heavy maintenance spend against budget and identify risks, efficiency improvements, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen delivery performance, cost control, standardisation, and quality outcomes.
Requirements
- Established experience in a heavy maintenance or base maintenance management role within an airline, CAMO, or Part 145 MRO environment.
- Solid working knowledge of heavy maintenance planning, execution, and CAMO interfaces.
- Detailed understanding of aviation regulations relevant to the role, including Part CAMO, Part M, Part 145, and SMS principles.
- Background in managing third-party service providers and leading multi-site teams remotely.
- Strong leadership, organisation, and decision-making ability, with confidence handling multiple priorities in a fast-moving setting.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel as needed.
- An Aircraft Engineering degree or EASA / UK CAA Aircraft Maintenance Licence is preferred.
- Knowledge of the Boeing 737 is preferred; experience with Airbus A320 and/or Bombardier Challenger is an advantage.
Benefits
- Competitive salary.
- Discounted unlimited travel to more than 250 destinations.
- Defined Contribution Pension Scheme with matching up to 5% or €5,000.
- Death in service cover of up to 2 times annual basic salary.
- 20 days of annual leave, rising to 22 days after 12 months and 25 days after 3 years of continuous service.
- Option to take up to 5 additional unpaid leave days each year.
- Cycle to Work Scheme.
- Strong career progression opportunities.
