General Manager – Australia

Role overview

This leadership position is designed for a seasoned financial services executive who wants to take charge of a growing, multi-division business in Australia. The role covers the company’s Payments, FX and broader financial services operations, with direct reporting to the Group CEO.

You will hold end-to-end accountability for the Australian group, with oversight across Sales, Compliance, Operations, Product, Finance, Treasury and People. The position carries a high level of visibility and influence over strategy, commercial results, regulatory performance and workplace culture.

Key responsibilities

• Set the direction for the Australian business and turn strategy into execution.
• Take ownership of financial performance, budget management and P&L delivery for the Australian operations.
• Strengthen revenue generation and overall commercial results.
• Guide, coach and motivate a team of more than 20 employees working across multiple functions.
• Ensure strong standards in governance, risk management and regulatory compliance.
• Manage important relationships with regulators, banking partners, technology providers and strategic stakeholders.
• Represent the Australian business to group leadership and external stakeholders as the main spokesperson.
• Support operational excellence and build systems that can scale with growth.
• Work closely with a capable leadership group based in the Sydney office.
• Serve as a director of Australian group entities and contribute to corporate governance and strategic decisions.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate brings more than 10 years of experience in Banking, Payments, Financial Services, Fintech, or another regulated industry. You should be commercially minded, experienced in scaling businesses and leading teams, and confident in managing budgets, performance and strategic initiatives in a growing financial services environment.

Success in this role requires comfort with regulated settings, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with executives, regulators, partners and employees. You should combine strategic thinking with a hands-on leadership style and be able to balance growth objectives with strong governance.

Highly valued experience

• Leadership of sales teams, such as in a Head of Sales or Chief Commercial Officer role within financial services.
• Background in Payments, Merchant Acquiring, FX, Treasury or Capital Markets businesses.
• Prior Responsible Manager experience under an AFSL.
• Working knowledge of AML/CTF, AFCA obligations and relevant regulatory frameworks.
• Exposure to crypto, stablecoin or digital asset businesses.
• MBA or an equivalent postgraduate qualification.
• Mandarin language proficiency.
