About the organisation
Mareeba Shire Council is a community-focused local government employer based in Mareeba, Queensland, in Far North Queensland. The opportunity
This is a permanent, full-time Facilities Officer position within the Council’s facilities team. The role supports the Coordinator Facilities in planning, coordinating and delivering maintenance, operational and renewal activities across a wide facilities portfolio that includes buildings, depots, community facilities, aquatic facilities and aerodromes.
You will help keep Council-owned assets safe, functional and aligned with operational needs while balancing multiple priorities across several sites. The role also involves compliance coordination, contractor oversight and accurate asset information management.
Key duties
- Support the planning and delivery of maintenance and renewal programs across the facilities portfolio.
- Coordinate day-to-day operational and maintenance priorities across multiple locations.
- Work with contractors and monitor their performance, compliance and costs.
- Help maintain safe and compliant public facilities through effective statutory compliance coordination.
- Keep asset records accurate and current to support facilities management decisions.
- Assist with the smooth operation of buildings, depots, community venues, aquatic assets and aerodromes.
What the Council is seeking
The ideal candidate will bring practical experience in facilities and building maintenance, along with the judgment to manage competing priorities and escalate significant issues when needed. Strong communication, contractor coordination and computer skills are important for success in this role.
Essential and desirable experience
- Experience in facilities management, building maintenance, asset management, construction or trade supervision.
- Good understanding of building maintenance methods, building systems and how facilities operate.
- Working knowledge of Queensland statutory compliance requirements for public buildings.
- Strong contractor management capability, including oversight of safety, compliance and cost control.
- Ability to work autonomously and use sound judgement.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with stakeholders.
- Competence with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Outlook and Excel, plus other relevant software.
- Experience in local government and relevant trade or degree qualifications will be viewed favourably.
Mandatory requirements
- A current Queensland Construction Industry White Card.
- A current Queensland C class driver’s licence.
- Eligibility to work in Australia without employer visa sponsorship.

Salary and benefits
- Base salary of $84,492 per annum at LGOA Level 4/1.
- Mareeba allowance of $2,080 per annum.
- Employer superannuation contribution of 12%.
