Stellenbeschreibung
Role overview
University of Nottingham is seeking an External Cleaner to work across either University Park or Jubilee Campus. This is a full-time, permanent position focused on maintaining external areas to a high standard.
What the job involves
The postholder will handle a variety of outdoor cleaning duties, such as collecting litter, clearing bins, and sweeping paths and roads. The work may involve using both ride-on and pedestrian-operated machinery.
Because the role regularly involves driving vehicles used in grounds maintenance and moving materials between university sites, a full valid driving licence is required unless a disability prevents this.
The working pattern is 36.25 hours per week, mainly Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend working when needed. The role is based onsite and may require working in harsh weather, including periods of extreme heat or cold.
Pay and contract details
The annual salary range is £25,353 to £26,379, based on a 36.25-hour contract, with pro rata pay where applicable. New starters are placed at the starting rate of £13.45 per hour, with progression to £13.99 per hour through annual incremental increases. The role is offered on a permanent contract.
What you need to bring
Applicants should have prior experience in a similar position and be comfortable operating a range of vehicles and powered equipment. You will also need to dispose of waste safely in line with university procedures and complete paperwork such as job tickets and log sheets accurately.
Training and additional expectations
The successful candidate must attend Estates and Facilities training sessions, which take place each month during a designated week, with sessions running on weekday mornings and afternoons. More information will be shared at interview.
Benefits
This role comes with annual leave of 27 days, or 30 days where applicable, plus standard bank holidays and five university closure days, including the period between Christmas and New Year. Other benefits include a reward scheme with performance bonuses, development and progression support, access to fitness and health facilities, staff discounts, travel schemes, an Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 counselling support, and a provided uniform along with the equipment needed to do the job well.
Equality, inclusion, and right to work
The university describes itself as a supportive and inclusive community that values cultural, ethnic, and belief diversity. It is a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and holds an Athena Swan Gold Award.
Applications are welcomed from the UK, Europe, and around the world, but this position does not meet the sponsorship rules for Skilled Worker visas. Candidates must already have the right to work in the UK.
Application notes
General questions should be directed to the Estates Recruitment email address provided by the employer. Applications sent directly to that email will not be accepted. Additional candidate guidance and benefits information are available through the university’s own resources.
