About the Employer

The Miller Group, part of Colas Canada, has been supporting the building and upkeep of transportation infrastructure across Canada since 1917. The organization combines established construction practices with modern technology and quality materials to deliver customer-focused service and operational support. Its work helps improve commutes, enhance community safety, and increase access to remote regions.

Miller Maintenance delivers maintenance services under Ministry of Transportation contracts across Ontario. Its position in the provincial road and highway maintenance sector is built on ongoing learning, innovation, training, and a strong safety culture.

Role Overview

In this position, you will patrol a designated highway area and keep a close watch on provincial road conditions to support the safety of the public. The role calls for proactive inspections, quick identification of hazards or roadway issues, and prompt action when situations require immediate attention. You will also coordinate any necessary follow-up maintenance or repair work.

You will carry out detailed road patrol checks while staying alert to traffic flow, infrastructure issues, environmental concerns, corridor permit compliance, and public safety matters. Day-to-day tasks include recording and responding to hazards, clearing small debris, setting temporary warning devices, handling public complaints, tracking weather impacts, and reporting roadway conditions and incidents to the Traffic Operations Centre.

Strong coordination and written communication are essential because you will maintain accurate records such as patrol logs, inspection reports, incident notes, weather and road condition updates, vehicle checks, deficiency tracking, and daily activity documentation in line with contract obligations.

The role also involves responding to incidents, assisting during emergencies and unexpected highway events, working with internal operations staff, police, and outside agencies, and making sure hazards are handled safely while patrol coverage is maintained.

Qualifications

  • Valid G licence with a clean driving record
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs
  • Previous experience in road patrolling or road works
  • Working knowledge of OTM Book 7
  • DZ or AZ licence is an advantage
  • Mechanical aptitude is preferred
  • Basic computer literacy is preferred

Additional Information

The compensation range for this position is $28 to $32 per hour.

The employer describes the role as a strong fit for someone who works safely, pays close attention to detail, enjoys independent work, and takes pride in protecting road users.

Career development, ongoing learning, growth opportunities, and a competitive compensation package are highlighted as part of the workplace experience. The organization also emphasizes respect, commitment, pioneering, sharing, integrity, community, and accountability as core values.

The company states that it is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes candidates from diverse backgrounds, including all ages, ethnicities, national origins, religious beliefs, disability statuses, marital or family statuses, and gender identities or expressions.
