Role summary

The Captain is responsible for operating assigned flights in line with the Airline Operational Manual and all applicable civil aviation authority rules. The role carries overall command of the aircraft during duty periods, with a primary focus on safety, security, operational efficiency, and passenger comfort. The Captain also leads and supports the flight and cabin crew, manages emergencies and unexpected situations, and helps maintain a strong and professional corporate image.

Core responsibilities

• Operate the assigned aircraft between destinations according to approved schedules and flight plans, acting as the final authority on board during the flight.
• Prioritize every operation in the order of safety, then efficiency, and then passenger comfort.
• Ensure each flight is run in full compliance with the Airline’s Operations Manual and all relevant regulations, while maintaining procedures that support smooth and safe aircraft operation.
• Arrive on time, maintain proper grooming and fitness standards, and confirm personal and crew legality for the assigned flight.
• Conduct pre-flight briefings so that all crew members are aligned on flight details and the required procedures before each phase of the operation.
• Coordinate with the First Officer, Second Officer, and Dispatch Team before departure to confirm technical status, route planning, weather, fuel requirements, crew roles, and weight distribution.
• Use fuel in the most efficient way possible without compromising safety constraints.
• Ensure that safety, security, fuel, and transit checks are completed by the assigned flight and cabin crew before, during, and after each flight.
• Take charge of irregularities, direct crew response in safety or security situations, and escalate issues when required.
• Work with Maintenance Engineers to verify the aircraft’s technical condition and suitability for flight, and involve MCC and MRO teams when defects or concerns arise so corrective action can be taken promptly.
• Make sure all required documents and technical records are completed accurately and carried onboard or logged as required, including the technical logbook, journey book, boarding sheets, and reports.
• Ensure the Airline Operations Manual is distributed, tracked, kept current, understood, and followed by the flight crew.
• Stay current on regulatory requirements issued by the civil aviation authority, Airbus, and any other relevant governing body.
• Carry out additional ground duties, such as Safety Officer or Security Officer tasks, when assigned by the line manager and permitted under Part A of the Airline’s Operations Manual.

Qualifications and knowledge

• A valid ATPL license is mandatory.
• The candidate must clear the technical and psychometric assessments required for pilots by the airline and the relevant civil aviation authority.
• The candidate must also pass the medical fitness assessment required for pilots.
• Training in safety and emergency response is required; formal certification is an added advantage.
• Training in airport security procedures and regulations is beneficial.
• Crew Resource Management training is an advantage.
• Knowledge of IATA security principles and standards is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of aircraft systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office are required.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills are needed, including technical report writing and presentations.
• Very good English language skills are required; knowledge of local languages used in the country of employment is a plus.

Experience and work style

• A minimum of 4,000 flying hours is required.
• Experience on the Airbus A320 is preferred.
• Prior exposure to low-cost airline operations is highly desirable.
• The role requires solid knowledge of aircraft systems and operating procedures.
• Experience handling delegated responsibilities such as safety or security-related duties is needed.
• Familiarity with QA, safety, security, and audit practices connected to flight operations is expected.
• The ideal candidate should be able to implement policies, procedures, and manuals in line with approved standards and regulations.
• Comfort with a fast-changing environment, heavy workloads, and ad hoc operational situations is important.
• The candidate should remain calm, self-assured, and focused when dealing with emergencies or threats.
• Strong analytical ability is needed to review data, identify issues, and recommend practical cost-effective solutions.
• A cost-conscious mindset, good problem-solving ability, and sound decision-making skills are important.
• High attention to accuracy, results, and detail is expected.
