Stellenbeschreibung
Role overview
Busways is hiring bus drivers for its Ryde depot, with several full-time permanent openings available and an immediate start for suitable candidates. The role is suited to people who enjoy being behind the wheel, value customer service, and want to support their local community through reliable public transport.
Training and licence support
If you hold a Medium Rigid (MR) licence or anything above it, you may be eligible for a 4-week paid driver training program. This program is designed to strengthen your existing heavy-vehicle knowledge and help you build the skills needed to operate as a professional bus driver.
For applicants who do not yet have the required licence or driver authority, the company may provide paid induction and mentor training, along with support to attend a Driver Authority course and complete the application process.
Pay and allowances
Permanent drivers are paid $33.58 per hour on weekdays, with shift loadings depending on the operating times within the shift. Weekend and public holiday rates are $50.37 per hour on Saturdays, $67.17 per hour on Sundays, and $83.96 per hour on public holidays. A daily attendance allowance of $19.48 is also included.
Benefits
This role includes a sign-on incentive of up to $6,000, subject to terms and conditions. Other advantages include a company-issued OPAL card, access to a paid training program, overtime opportunities, career growth pathways, salary packaging options such as novated leasing, and an Employee Assistance Program offering confidential counselling for you and your family.
Busways also offers a supportive and secure workplace, flexible shifts to help balance work and personal life, and ongoing development through both informal learning and structured courses. Employees can also access the Busways Fitness Passport Program, which provides entry to multiple pools and fitness facilities across Sydney and regional NSW under one membership.
About the company
Busways has spent more than 80 years delivering dependable public transport services with a strong focus on customer care, stakeholder relationships, and staff development. The organisation employs more than 2,800 people and supports over 47 million passenger journeys each year. Its operations include contracted bus services across Western Sydney, the North Shore and West, the Central Coast, the North Coast, and Adelaide’s Outer South.
Working hours
Drivers need to be flexible and available for a variety of shifts, including weekends, early mornings, and late nights. Many full-time shifts are split shifts, typically covering peak travel periods in the morning and afternoon. Usual split-shift windows are 6:00am to 10:00am and 2:00pm to 6:00pm. Outside these periods, drivers may go home, run errands, or remain at the depot and use the driver facilities.
Some straight shifts may also be available, with start times varying across mornings, afternoons, or evenings. All depots run seven days a week, and Sunday and public holiday work is treated as voluntary overtime.
Terms and conditions
The advertised sign-on bonus of up to $6,000 is subject to applicable terms and conditions. Applications are reviewed as they are received, so suitable candidates are encouraged to apply without delay. Busways promotes equal opportunity and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and people from diverse cultural, social, and gender groups.
Eligibility
Applicants should hold a current and valid Medium Rigid licence or above, have a clean or strong driving history, and bring strong communication and customer service ability. Candidates must also be willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment, criminal history check, and working with children check. A current NSW Driver Authority is highly preferred, though candidates who are willing to obtain one may still be considered.
Community and inclusion
The employer encourages a diverse workforce and states that it values inclusion across the communities it serves.
