The company emphasizes a people-first culture built around professionalism, ethics, and strong results. It aims to attract and keep highly driven team members who work well together to deliver quality outcomes for clients.

Core Values

  • Clients come first through care, quality, service, and a win-win mindset.

  • Character matters through integrity, accountability, passion, and care.
  • Team means trust, honesty, respect, reliability, and inclusion.
  • Appreciation means valuing one another, celebrating wins, and enjoying the journey.
  • Learning, growth, and innovation are encouraged by challenging the status quo and staying competitive.

Role Overview

The Assistant Project Manager supports the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager by handling assigned project tasks and helping keep work organized and moving forward. This entry-level APM role is intended to build capability in construction processes and strengthen familiarity with commercial construction sites.

Assignments may range widely in size, value, and duration, and the role may support more than one project at a time. The position focuses on day-to-day coordination, communication, documentation, ordering, and other details that help the project team meet schedule and delivery goals while following company policies, ethics, and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the field team, clients, subcontractors, and vendors, and help maintain productive working relationships with foremen, superintendents, customers, engineers, general contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Contribute to one or more projects at a time and assist with small projects when needed.
  • Build a personal development plan with the manager and continue developing knowledge of the local construction market.
  • Strengthen technical understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems, codes and standards, and Hermanson construction practices.
  • Keep plan sets current in ACC Build or the project folder.
  • Create procurement and submittal logs from equipment matrices and specifications.
  • Prepare, package, issue, and track submittals, RFIs, and procurement records.
  • Process purchase orders and maintain procurement tracking.
  • Coordinate journal adjustments with the project accountant.
  • Set up and monitor per diem or subsistence payments.
  • Compile closeout document packages.
  • Work with site safety personnel to understand audit results and develop jobsite safety awareness.
  • Gain exposure to BIM and detailing workflows.
  • Learn how project schedules are built and interpreted.
  • Draft subcontracts.
  • Track startup, installation verification, and pre-commissioning forms as required.
  • Prepare RFIs with supporting sketches and mark them up on contract documents, plans, and submittals.
  • Build submittal packages and verify them against drawings and building standards.
  • Draft equipment purchase orders and confirm accuracy against drawings, submittals, quotes, and standards.
  • Review drawing revisions and identify possible scope impacts.
  • Update budgets, revision logs, and change order logs.
  • Gain exposure to estimating tasks such as material takeoffs, conceptual estimating, and change order preparation.
  • Learn how monthly financial reports such as ECAC/stats are prepared and presented.
  • Regularly visit assigned projects in the field.

Accountabilities and KPIs

  • Maintain an effective document control system and keep it updated consistently across projects.
  • Build strong working relationships with foremen, project managers, and project coordinators.

Experience and Skills

The role calls for strong communication, sound time management, a high sense of urgency, and the ability to build trust with customers and project stakeholders. Professional appearance, conduct, grooming, and business attire are expected.

Candidates should also be comfortable supporting field teams and customers directly. Depending on project needs, the role may require full-time onsite presence and, at times, work before or after scheduled project hours. Work location and hours may vary based on project demands and supervisor direction.

The position also requires physical capability to walk across rough, icy, or muddy ground, climb stairs and ladders, work safely at heights without fear, and remain effective while exposed to weather for extended periods.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business, or Engineering is preferred. Equivalent education and experience will also be considered, including a mix of trade experience and education that demonstrates readiness for APM I responsibilities.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $65,000 to $85,000 annually, with actual pay depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

  • Competitive pay with bonus potential
  • Medical, prescription, dental, and vision coverage with zero to low weekly employee premiums
  • 401(k) plan with discretionary company match
  • Paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays
  • Disability income protection

  • Career development and growth opportunities
  • In-house training programs
  • Certificate and tuition reimbursement
  • Wellness program
