Role overview
Hegarty's Centra in Claremorris, County Mayo is seeking an Assistant Manager to help keep the store running smoothly, efficiently, and to a high standard. The role focuses on delivering excellent customer service, maintaining a fresh food offering, and ensuring the store remains clean, safe, and well organized. A key part of the job is supporting sales and profitability goals through strong leadership of people and day-to-day operations.
Key responsibilities
- Represent and support the Centra brand values: Proud, Energetic, Imaginative, and Community-Based.
- Work with the team to set, track, and deliver targets for gross margin, net margin, waste, and other agreed KPIs.
- Make sure planograms are followed accurately and that the right product range is available in store.
- Maintain a store presentation that meets the highest merchandising and display standards.
- Lead by example, promote teamwork, and help create a positive and motivating workplace culture.
- Encourage clear communication between staff and management while supporting a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
- Assist the Store Manager with team development, training, and the overall smooth operation of the store.
- Monitor employee performance and provide regular feedback, recognition, and encouragement.
- Handle customer queries promptly, professionally, and in line with store policy.
- Support the business in understanding and improving margins across departments.
- Take an active approach to new initiatives and adapt well to changes in working methods.
Candidate profile
- At least 2 years of experience in a relevant role is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
- Previous experience handling cash and tills.
- Clear and effective communication skills.
- Good delegation and coordination ability.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
- Good understanding of KPIs, targets, and commercial performance.
- Awareness of brand standards and business priorities.
- Genuine interest in grocery retail.
- Comfortable working in a busy, fast-moving environment.
